to Aprx software
I hope this software is still relevant. I want to run a 2-way iGate with it. I have been using YAAC, but really want to run headless and requiring a GUI makes it difficult. I'm using a ninoTNC, so I have a USB KISS interface. Direwolf won't work for me, this software seems perfect for me!
  • I downloaded the aprx_2.9.0_amd64.deb precompiled binary, as I have a x86_64 mini-PC.
  • I think I have followed the documentation to setup the configuration. I do not want to digipeat, only rx and tx igate.
  • The ninoTNC default baud rate is 57600 but the doc says only up to 38400 is supported, so I need to try to change the TNC.

my digipeater section is as follows, mostly defaults from the example:
<digipeater>
    transmitter     $mycall
    ratelimit      60 120      # default: average 60 packets/minute,
                               #          burst max 120 packets/minute
    srcratelimit   10 20       # Example: by sourcecall:
                               #          average 10 packets/minute,
                               #          burst max 20 packets/minute

    <source>                # APRSIS source adds a TX-IGATE behaviour
       source        APRSIS
       relay-type    third-party  # Must define this for APRSIS source!
       viscous-delay  5    # Recommendation: 5 seconds delay to give
                           # RF delivery time make itself known.
       ratelimit      60 120      # default: average 60 packets/minute,
                                  #          burst max 120 packets/minute
    #  filter         a/la/lo/la/lo  # service area filter
    #  filter         -b/CALL        # always block these
       via-path         WIDE1-1
       msg-path         WIDE1-1
    </source>
</digipeater>

when I run sudo service aprx start, it seems to startup, but it always seems to not be running:
● aprx.service - LSB: start and stop aprx
     Loaded: loaded (/etc/init.d/aprx; generated)
     Active: active (exited) since Wed 2025-03-26 09:15:10 MDT; 2s ago
       Docs: man:systemd-sysv-generator(8)
    Process: 2209038 ExecStart=/etc/init.d/aprx start (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
        CPU: 17ms

There are no files in the /var/log/aprx/ directory. I don't know what's happening. Any ideas for me?

Hi Jon - I never seem to be able to get a message posted, but I saw yours.

I just stumbled on aprx, and am running it in a tri-band digipeater between 2m aprs, 433 MHz LoRa APRS, and 915 MHz LoRa APRS.

On a Raspberry Pi running bookworm, the command I use is

arpx -d

That causes it to start up fine. However, I do get an error

COULD NOT OPEN PIDFILE: '/var/run/aprx.pid'

otherwise it appears to be doing what it says on the tin.

Cheers and 73 - Jon N7UV

Hi Jon -

Your email is the first activity I've seen since 2023. Don't know if it's a problem on my end. I just started using aprx in a tri-cross-band digipeater and prolly don't have everything set up perfectly but it's working. I first want to see if you even see this message.
Cheers and 73 - Jon N7UV

I think I spoke too soon. Eventually I did see log files, confirmed it is talking to my TNC and APRS-IS. everything is working as I wanted it to.
Than you for this wonderful software!

I know, not much activity but I did get your message! I did end up getting mine working. Great software, which is why there is so little chatter.
