IGate, Messages to RF

Not sure about this but I have seen that my APRX installation from
time to time send out messages to stations that's way out of range and
on another frequency and band.
From what I might have learned, an Igate send messages to stations
within RF range and that has been heard directly or via a digipeater
within a specified time period.
If this is right... why is it sending messages or... is there
something I have missed ?
I'm using the filter (filter "t/m") in the <aprsis> section and
(filter t/m) in the <source> section of the .conf file
