Hi all,

I'm using a Raspberry PI for my IGate, and I'd like to be able to use the GPIOs to monitor a few things like whether commercial power goes out.

The hardware side is easy and there's lot's of information about reading the GPIOs for the PI.

Is there a way with APRX to send a message to a APRS to email gateway when say the commercial power on the site goes out? I was thinking something along the line of a beacon file get written when the event happens and APRX then sends it out alerting me via email that the power has gone out and when it comes back on.

Yes,
I just built a 'Toolbox digi' and this is really similar to what I have done. I am running the direwolf as a decoder only and aprx attaches via 127.0.0.1 LO interface. The script I wrote reads the GPS NMEA sentences from the GPS, fishes out the needed LAT/LON and then assembles them to a packet and I let aprx beacon from 'file'. I put a simple toggle switch on the unit so when I want a clean 'shutdown' to power it off, it reads the GPIO header voltage as logic 'low' then the script initiates a 'shutdown -h now' command. No reason why a custom 'packet' can't be 'built' to send an email out with your AC power fail message. And thanks for the great idea, I'll see about doing this and post the script when I get it working.

Refresh my memory, what is the syntax for sending an email from APRS?

See aprs101.pdf for sending an APRS message and

http://www.aprs-is.net/email.aspx for the APRS->Email gateway information.
