Friends, here is the latest contact info. Chintalapati Venkata Ramana Murthy (B-section, now goes by CVR) lives in the Bay Area and has been working at Oracle as a software director. He was the doctor in గుండెలు మార్చబడును”. YKM must remember him. But YKM doesn't have email and hasn't joined these conversations.

GVR, can you impress upon YKM to get an email (he seems to be living in medieval times!!). I have told him a couple of times :(

NVR, can you whet our memory by telling where Ch Venkataramana he sat in the class?

- Reddy

So, come to think of this, YKM was probably the doctor in that little play, the tall Venkatarao (GVR) played the old man turning a young toddler and I was certainly an actor in that but I'm refresh my memory cells little bit more to zoom in on what my part was.

Anyway, hello classmates joining this group is dream come true, so many lost connections to be revived and loads of memory cells to be zoomed in. And I applaud teams efforts, especially MVVS, Gummadi and of course, Gara Sankararao - my friend where have you disappeared after we stunningly bumped into each other in San Francisco (for JavaOne conference decade or so ago!)

Where have you all been since '79 folks, passing out of APRST, which I'm sure, like me, you all too found it to be a game changer in not only in our career but in our lives in general. The boarding and lodging, the tuition, extra-curricular activities and above all a diverse set of young talent to be part of. Bhawannarayana's handwriting, Gara's artwork, Sastry's english mastery, Gummadi-the-genius's proof's to Subramaniam gari's riders (boy, what a teacher, I loved his approach, no wonder I used to sit in the front benches; I know some of you didn't necessarily like his teaching style, that's okay), GVR/YKM - the tall backbencher's high marks. I did meet a few of classmates, especially Gara Sankara Rao, GVVS and Gummadi after the school days. Anyway, there is much to write, will catch later.

As a customer newbie to the group, a little bit about myself -

After graduating from APRST, I went to pursue Intermediate a Loyola College, Vijayawada then onto JNTU Kakinada (where I earned a B.Tech. in Electronics & Communication Engineering) after which I went to Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay to pursue M.Tech. in Computer Science & Engineering. And after graduating from IIT in 1987, he joined United Nations sponsored Education & Research in Networking (Project ERNet) – a TCP/IP based wide area network linking IITs, IISc, NIST and TIFR. As a proud member of the ERNet team, during my brief tenure in 1988 as a visiting researcher at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), Pittsburgh, I helped establish the first TCP/IP connection to NIST, Bombay trailblazing networking in India. I worked at IIT in Powai for 4 years along with a brief pursuit of applied research at Tata Research and Development Center (Pune) and a Ph.D. at IIT.

The lure of emerging Internet technologies lead me to drop out of Ph.D. program to join a start up named Frontier Technologies Corp., headquartered in Mequon, Wisconsin in 1991. I worked for Frontier for 5 years, wrote first HTTP server software for Windows before Microsoft had its web server. I left Frontier in 1996 for Silicon Valley to join the DotCom powerhouse, Sun Microsystems Inc. I co-authored a book (a Prentice-Hall title “Sun Web Server”), co-invented 5 US patents and lead development of web server software that powers such sites as MLB.com, NYTimes.com, etc. When Oracle acquired Sun in 2010, I was retained as a Software Development Director.

I should probably upload more recent pictures sometime - but I've one (taken in 80's) for anyone to recognize.

My interests include teaching the philosophy of non dualism, and meditation to realize and life fulfillment (and teaching others along the way) through Spiritual Journey that I'm on.

Back to that drama, I remember we earned the first prize in district-level competition at Venkateswara Vignana Mandiram in Guntur, and we couldn't go to the state level due to Xth finals.

More later,

Wow! You have been in the forefront of the web technology, and leading it! Very impressive!

I was confused when you mentioned you played doctor in గుండెలు మార్చబడును drama. I thought YKM played that role too. Then again, I remember him playing పిచ్చిరాజు role. But that happens to be a different drama.

BTW, G Sankara Rao's info is in the contact list. I am checking to see if he can meet with me when I have a business trip in Oct to Austin.

Yes my dear Ramana Murthy. I think that's how you were known in our class. This is the so-called venkatarao. I remember the entire episode - our performance in the local school, our selection to the district level and the final performance in Guntur. Hats off to your memory - you recollect the name of the venue too. You are right about the character I played. And let me try - you played the toddler and our junior Divakar played the role of a young lady. You, being short and having child-like face, was perfect match for the role. Divakar, being very fair and handsome, perfectly suited the cast. YKM, as usual, was an actor par excellence. RKM master - the director and whole & sole (soul also must be OK) of the playlet. Also, I came to know that the same play was awarded the first prize at state level and that performance was not as good as ours. This was told to me by a parent of our schoolmate who happened to watch both performances.

Coming back to school - yes, you, TBN, Gummadi, G Sankara Rao and another guy from A-section used to move about closely. I also remember you sharing a number of jokes and funny incidents with the class. I used to see a constant smile on your face. This is what memory reveals about you.

The picture attached now shows a matured, little taller Ramana Murthy and definitely at variance with that of 1979.

After going through your story, there appears to be a big gap. You studied, graduated, worked, earned patents etc. but there is a missing link in your life which connects the self to the society - i.e. the marriage and its subsequent developments. Was the silence deliberate or forgetfulness?

We are eagerly waiting to hear from Gummadi, Gara and others. Please go through the earlier threads of the group to know about me.

GVR

Sastry,

Typically gmail, hotmail, yahoo mail etc are pretty nonrestrictive. I particularly like gmail since it limits spam/junk mail. Company emails are subject to firewalls, scanning, and company policies. Generally high tech companies in the U.S. are forgiving when it comes to personal emails that come through their firewalls, but most other companies are not.

I am not an expert on firewalls and company policies. But my suggestion is to use private email address and not your company address.
