Hello!

I'm Manuel EA7EE from Spain.
I'm developing YSF2DMR with others folks and I'm using aprs.fi API to get location information for DMR stations.

The program use the API and a different private APIKey for each people HotSpot, so they must get a personal APIKey for the program to work properly.
It is working very well. My program has a location cache so it wait for two minutes before asking again for the station location.

My questions to the creators and users of aprs.fi are the folowing:

1. It can pose a overload danger on the system? I'm identifying my program as YSF2DMR, so it is possible to know the load on the system it makes.
2. It's possible to use a global APIKey or to change the way the request are made so the user don't have to ask for an private aprs.fi account?
3. I can donate to the support of the aprs.fi severs? How?

The Digital APRS is working very well with the GM Yaesu Button without user intervention.
It works at the same time and at the same frequency that digital voice!!

Thank You all!
Regards
Manuel

Hi,

1. At the moment YSF2DMR is not causing a lot of load. However, 65% of
YSF2DMR requests are made with invalid apikeys "Apikey" or "XXXXXXXX"
which are probably your default settings. Only 45% are made with a valid
api key. This is a bit silly. You might want to make the default config
such that it doesn't make invalid requests by default.

2. Currently I don't have a method in place to place specific per-client
API rate limits. Also, it'd be easy for other apps to reuse the API key
published with your app, so your special key's increased rate limit could
be easily abused.

Generally, if you need to deploy a widely-used app, I currently recommend
setting up a backend & API of your own.

3. No need at the time, thank you!
