Would it be feasible to create route upload option from a GPS/KMZ/KML or other data file so that all users could see it?

I currently use both APRS.FI and PinPoint APRS.

Amateur radio operators around the world support walks/runs/bicycle events, etc. that have a defined and often recurring course every year.  To my knowledge there is no APRS platform that allows for the live sharing of these courses.  The APRS objects certainly help for identifying specific locations but to share a course would be a huge benefit that I believe would generate more use of APRS in public service.

My club has provided comms for a local marathon. Would love to be able to add the marathon (and half-marathon) route to the APRS map (in addition to all our hams beaconing from water stations or operating from various buses / delivery vehicles).

Wouldn't have to be visible to "ALL" users. That sounds like it would be begging for abuse by the graffiti artists...

... but sharing a URL like aprs.fi/blah/blah/foo.bar?overlay=https://kwarc.org/marathon.geojson (or GPX, or KML, or whatever) among other marathon operators would be amazingly useful - making it available to "all users who know the special link" makes more sense than littering the public map I would have thought?

Alternatively I would have to re-implement most of aprs.fi into something like https://noseynick.org/va3nnw/marathon/map.html rather than vice-versa. Though I admit I have been tempted, that seems like a HECK of an effort, for less than 1 day a year of serious use   :-)

Having done bicycle events for 30 years, your suggestion, although good, wouldn't be practical, at least in my opinion.  Routes or objects tend to change almost yearly as route conditions change, or better ideas are found by organizers.
Recently I've found the most reliable route maps are already on the internet in GPS/KMZ/KML formats for each event, updated before each year's event.  For bicycle events, many are listed at https://ridewithgps.com .  Here's one example that is 204 miles with 20,000 ft of uphill, and the route changes slightly year to year.  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/53821261
I'm sure walk or run events have similar downloadable data for the participants since loading a map is less expensive than printing maps.

I would like to add my support for the request made by Jeff/N9NIC. Our amateur radio club supports a walk/run/bicycle event every year that could greatly benefit from a GPS/KMZ/KML upload capability!

Thanks!
Mark

Our Club club has started using CalTopo to create courses and plot all the APRS stations on the map.
Here’s one of our recent events.
