Problem about API requests timing out

Hello,

I am contacting you on behalf of the account mthaler, since the 31th March we are not able anymore to retrieve data from the APRS API. In particular, these types of requests https://api.aprs.fi/api/get?name=DK1PR&what=wx&apikey=*&format=json are timing out.

Is there a specific reason? What can we do to avoid it?

Hi,

I have blocked a few IP ranges which were scraping data from the aprs.fi
user interface, without using the API. They were not respecting the TOS,
and were causing extra load to the service. The biggest problems were
with Chinese IPs (likely bots training AIs), but there were some european
instances which seemed to be scraping data just for the purpose of getting
actual position or weather data.
