Hello,

I am a licensed amateur radio operator from Turkey. I am conducting some APRS tests via aprs.fi and want to verify how my connection reaches aprs.fi, that I am connecting directly via TCP over the internet, etc.

I am simulating travel and journeys between cities on a map.

Brief information below:

- How I connect: APRSdroid and the internet.

- My goal: (e.g., simulation/testing via the internet only, not an IGate / I am not running an IGate)

- Situation/question I am facing: (e.g., is there any legal issue with my visibility on aprs.fi; how can I be removed from aprs.fi records; is there a risk that the packets I send via APRS-IS could be converted to an unauthorized gateway, etc.)

- I can also send a reference log/packet if you'd like (raw packet example, timestamp).

I'd really appreciate any guidance you can provide—I'm particularly curious about the correct approach regarding visibility/reporting/account issues on the aprs.fi side.

Thanks...

Hi,

I may not understand what you're trying to achieve, but there's no connection involved. Your packets get sent to the APRS-IS network, from where aprs.fi (like every other service out there) receives them. Check out "Where is the displayed data obtained from" here: https://aprs.fi/page/faq

Perhaps running your own closed "APRS-IS" in isolation could work? You could then connect your clients to that, and this synthetic stuff wouldn't spill over to the production network.

This is not a direct connection to aprs.fi. APRSdroid connects to the
APRS-IS server network, and aprs.fi (and a bunch of other similar web
sites) collect the data from APRS-IS for archival and display.

Anyone can connect to APRS-IS and collect or inject data.

This is a tricky one, as the data is published without authentication.
APRS-IS does not have a published privacy policy or contract with its
users, but all data you send there is publicly available to anyone.

If the data comes from APRS-IS, aprs.fi (and any other site) can not know
for sure who sent the data. There is no proper authorisation on APRS-IS
and aprs.fi can not know whether an user of aprs.fi originated some
packets on the APRS-IS. So, aprs.fi does not let you delete data of some
callsign if the data arrived via the APRS-IS, because it doesn't know if
you transmitted that data or not.

Yes, there is no security on APRS-IS and the full data stream can be
collected by anyone for archival or forwarding.
