Dear APRS.fi Support Team,

I am writing to report an incorrect object/station currently displayed on the APRS.fi map.

There is an airport entry (labeled as "Ekrem Pakdemirli Airport") shown in the Alaçatı / Çeşme region (İzmir, Türkiye). As a local radio amateur and resident of this area, I would like to clarify that there is no physical airport or active landing strip at these coordinates.

This entry appears to be a false object or a misconfigured station beacon. It may cause confusion for users monitoring aviation or emergency traffic in the Aegean region. You can verify this via official civil aviation maps or current satellite imagery of the Alaçatı district, which is primarily a residential and windsurfing area.

Could you please review and remove this phantom object from the database?

Best regards,

Ömer Tunç de TA3MW

Hi Ömer,

As far as I know, APRS.FI uses OpenStreetMap (https://www.openstreetmap.org/) for its map display, so they would be the people to talk to about updating the map.

As for the existence of the airport, Google Maps satellite view shows what looks like a disused airstrip at that location.

Hi,

Not talking in any sort of "official capacity" here but as already clarified by VK2SKY, that airfield is on the map. I.e. not an APRS object. Even if there was an actual APRS object involved, as far as I can tell there's very little aprs.fi could do about it, and anyway in that case the reasonable approach would be to try to do something about it locally over there.

Ömer

I suggest you go to www.openstreetmap.org and submit a map edit to remove the non-existent airport.

I had a somewhat similar issue where the small lane I live along showed as a through street when in reality it's a dead end. The portion of the lane that the map said was connected to another lane in reality was someone's back yard with a wall and a garden blocking any possibility of through traffic. I was able to submit a map edit as a local resident and have it approved, showing that the lane doesn't actually connect with the other small lane. Since then my local food and grocery delivery service no longer takes the wrong route to try to get to my house.
