APRS Messages rooting theory ?

Hi,

I am trying to understand the routing of APRS messages sended from :
- RF To RF  
- RF To APRS-IS network
- APRS-IS network To RF
This with  drirect transfert or through DIGI or IGate

As all my Google searches remain in vain, I need ypur help to find a website or a document which would give me this theoretical approach.
