Hello everyone:

I've been trying the Windows version for a month now and I have a server running, the first one in Catalonia, it's T2CAT.

I don't know how to make it appear in the list of active servers, I would be grateful if anyone could help me.

Greetings and happy new year, 73

Hi,

The windows version is not supported, the latest build is already 9 years
old, and has an awful lot of defects which have been fixed in future
versions. It was more of an experiment to see how hard it would be to make
it work. I have now deleted it from the downloads folder so that it won't
be accidentally used. Please do not run it, install a fresh one on Linux
instead. Thanks!

I do not intend to make Windows builds in the future, I don't have a
working development environment for it (no Windows computers in active
use, even). There are also enough servers as it is - it requires more
resources to support the large amount of servers than it would take to
support the end users / clients with a smaller amount of servers.

If you really need to, you can run javaprssrvr on Windows. To join the
aprs2.net network, please contact ad6nh at aprs2.net. But from my angle,
it is not necessary at this time, from a server infrastructure point of
view, unless it is in a data center, on a fairly large server.

Thank you for your reply.

At the moment we don't have any PC with Linux nor anyone who can do it
and we want to have a server since there is none in Catalonia.

We are Digigrup-EA3, an association that, since 1998, has been
maintaining the APRS network throughout Catalonia.

Regards

Right, I understand you would like to have one. The practical situation
with the server network is that we have too many servers, not too few
servers. Not every country needs a server, it is not beneficial or
necessary.

The servers consume more resources than their clients. Adding servers does
not actually help, unless they are in datacenters, and replace a few of
the smaller ones which would be removed from the network.

It would be easier to manage a smaller fleet of servers than the current
large fleet running a large variety of different Linux distributions and
versions with their different quirks and issues. The idea of running aprsc
on Windows would be one more exceptional case, since nobody else does that
now.
