This year we will plunge into the fascinating worlds of some modern and contemporary short story writers who present a myriad of topics full of psychological intensity, and symbolic and poetic potential. Diverse as these stories will be, they all share what Julio Cortázar described as the short story defining characteristic: “el cuento debe ganar por knockout”. Some of the authors who will accompany us through our reading journey are Djuna Barnes, Colm Tóibín, Margaret Atwood, Doris Lessing, and Ernest Hemingway. There will be two special sessions where we will read English translations of Japanese writer Taeko Kōno and Russian author Anton Chekhov.
The meetings will be held online once a month, from 10 to noon. You read the stories before the session, jot down your impressions, ideas, and associations and we discuss them on the date we meet.
The meetings will be coordinated by Mariela Burani.
The stories will be sent by e-mail prior to the meeting, with enough time for you to read them.
Save these dates! April 1st/ May 13th /June 10th/ July 29th/ August 19th/ September 16th/ October 21st/ November 11th
