When we sent you Newsletter #1, back in February, it was brimful of projects for 2020. Little did anyone suspect then what this year held in store for the whole world.
So just as you tried to make sense of these uncertain times and adapt to remote teaching, so did we Committee members, all practising teachers ourselves, even those officially retired. We tried to stay close to you through social networks with links to resources and webinars to help us meet the challenges, while we all struggled to cope and experienced sleep deprivation.
By April we started taking baby steps with small online meetings of our Reading Group, and slowly grew in confidence to organise bigger events in June and July.
Our Annual General Meeting, scheduled for April 24th, logically had to be put on hold until government regulations authorise face-to-face meetings. In the meantime, following official directives, the current Executive Committe remains in office.
Read on for a short summary of our activities so far and plans for the beginning of the second term.

Recent events
It now appears a lifetime ago, but on March 7th we held our Kick-off event with Andrea Masset and Valquiria Fazzi. Participants profited from very real and context-situated experiences to develop different dimensions of the reading skill. On that same day we drew lots for a Falabella gift card among members who had already cancelled their dues: Marcela Perochena was the lucky winner.
Keeping the human connection in the ELT community was the motto we chose for our reading groups led by Mariela Burani, now on Zoom. First it was “Stoner” by John Williams or how to narrate a simple life, which had been suggested as summer reading. Then we turned again to short stories with Out in the open – reading during lockdown. Enthusiastic teachers were only too glad to spend some "me" time while the world seemed to be going a little bit out of control.
As lockdown prompted theatres everywhere to offer some of their performances online, we prevailed upon the the director and performers of Female voices in Shakespeare (originally played in 2016) to record a new version of this play reading show from their own homes. It premiered on our YouTube channel in two parts in June to the delight of the audience, who engaged in a live chat while they watched. If you missed it or want to enjoy it again, you can find both Part 1 and Part 2 online. Warmfelt thanks to our colleagues Mónica Pérez, Giselle Badía, María del Carmen Bonilla, Tamara Bustos, Julieta de Zavalía, Josefina Neder, Juanita Nicenboim and Magalí Sigrist for sharing their talent with us.
June was Bloomsday time, as usual - or Zoomsday? - and together with Asociación Católica San Patricio we celebrated it with Conversatorio: Ulises de Joyce. Continuando el círculo, led by Eduardo Orayen and Mariela Burani. All participants vouched to share a face-to-face pint in 2021! You can watch a recording of the session on our YouTube channel.
The last event of this term was extremely practical and hands-on: What will post pandemic CVs and interviews be like? Basics to excel. An impressive turnout benefited from the expert advice of Gastón Minardi and Ana Harte, who helped us to imagine the future of work in "new normal" mode. We will soon be sharing a recording of this session, so watch out for details on our social networks.

As September is drawing closer, we want to “hear your voices” so we can continue to offer relevant CPD options. We would really appreciate it if you could take 3 minutes to answer this brief 5-question survey.
