TL;DR: I had to calculate 4 seasons of racing to finally find a point where an individual racing in X30 senior would be spending over $10,000 a year on karting. At that point the driver was competing both in both regional and local competitions. Essentially, club racing is about $4,000 to compete in given you have the equipment already. Regional racing totals out around $8,000 for 5 weekends of driving, 10 racedays in total.
@Aaron_Hachmeister_13 Good breakdown, but I think the long and short of it is that club level costs can depending on how much you race, how many new tires you buy, if you have someone maintain your equipment vs doing it yourself and what equipment you get (new/used/good/crappy).
I included extra practice days in my discussion with this person. It came out to about $778/race. Yours came out to around $448/race. It makes sense, X30 vs. 206 and Animal. Like you said, theres a lot of extra variables that can change stuff though, like whether the weekend was also a family vacation.
I just ran the numbers that would be associated with me and my Son to participate in Karting and I was astounded at the costs of being competitive. I see the correlation simply because the more you want to be on the podium, you must first be a competitive driver with proven skills. Then one must have one of the fastest if not the fastest because there is a point where mechanics will prevail, tires, gas, tuned, etc.,.
If I have more power to pull away from you on the straight aways ( a few horse power more ) and that driver has good skills, it will be much harder not impossible just much harder to take and maintain the lead. To get thoses extra horse power that makes a difference folks use VORTEX type engines premanufactured for race and rebuild the engine during the race season, fresh tires each race compared to the racer that uses his for 3 to maybe 4 races, or just pushes the quality of the operational limits of manufactured parts.
Simple advice, is go to a local kart dealer like Huggler Racing Engines, and tell him what your budget is to get started. A kart dealer will help you get some scope on cost and expense, in a real world way.
Being planful with the the resources you have (ie, actually do a budget)
Adjusting your expectations according to that. (Example, trying to run a shifter on a 206 budget, it can be done, but not very well. Ask me how I know)

Are you wondering how to get your kid into kart racing? If your child has tried Arrive & Drive racing in the junior karts and looks promising, enter them in our Junior Challenge GP kart racing league! Our track welcomes new racers and will be very helpful in getting your child involved.
Each event includes a qualifying race to determine the starting grid, and a final race for position. At the end of the final race, points are awarded to each racer depending on their result. Kids accumulate points with each monthly event they compete in, until a champion is crowned at the final race in December.
Our Teen Challenge GP runs the same as our Junior Challenge GP. It has 12 races that run monthly from January to December and participants race head-to-head for position. And the format is also the same: each event has a qualifying session and a final race for position. Teenagers also compete for points, and the highest points finisher at each location will score some awesome prizes.
Teen Cup takes place on the same evening as our Junior League. But rest assured, this competition is a whole other beast. The karts can approach speeds of up to 45mph and these teens know how to get the most from them.
I am looking for an opportunity to race go karts I have a big interest in it and hoping to move forward to see where it will go. I just went to kart-o-mania in Montreal and i did very well. Please let me know if I could do something like kart racing and hopefully formula 1.
Hey Jessy! Great to hear you want to become a race car driver. We recommend starting at a local kart track with rentable go karts, like K1 Speed. This way you can see how much you enjoy it and start to learn some basic skills before plunking down tons of money and getting serious. Most, if not all NASCAR drivers started in karts at a very young age. We wish you the best of luck!
I was wondering if the environment is less.. uncoordinated then fast lane I recently went to fast lane to race there and other then my time on the track they were unclear on where and when to be places it was a mess all around and at the end of the day the final race was just called off without any warning. I really enjoyed racing but everything else was lacking.

Dr. Matthew Ehrlich and his colleagues participated in the Racing for ALS high performance driving event at Virginia International Raceway in Virginia over the Independence Day weekend. The fundraising teams raised money from their departments as part of a friendly competition between neurology and pulmonology.
The Racing for ALS team also presented Duke ALS Clinic director, Dr. Richard Bedlack, with a check for the proceeds from a previous racing event. Racing for ALS events benefit a variety of ALS research organizations across the nation.

I want to drive stock cars maybe or sprints, probably late models or modifieds or just pure stock. I have karted but I want to move up. How can I do it? I have no car and nothing to tow the trailer. I know a guy who knows a guy who races at Perris auto speedway so that might help me get into it. Help me please.
If you have some like minded friends who are looking to get into racing too, pool your resources and get something budget friendly together. Be prepared to learn and ask for help of you need it. Everything else will develop from there.
If you get paid a ridiculous amount of money, and spend only a normal amount of money, it builds up very quickly to become an accelerating and unstoppable force, like a snowball on a steep hill. And many people agreed that with a top salary of $125,000 per year, and a wife that made it up to $70k in her short career, we were indeed earning a ridiculous amount of money.
Teacher salaries vary widely by state, so they make much more than my example in New York, California and Illinois, for example, and less in Southern states like Georgia. This is the median. If you wanted to follow my example strictly from a newly graduated teacher situation, they might start out lower than my example, but finish at a higher level.
What I struggle with is not being bitter at not being able to do it, it is being hard on myself for such foolish spending I have done in the past. I have had to learn some big mistakes twice before I got real conscious about the spending. I love your blog MMM. It keeps me moitivated to keep on plugging towards even a 4 day work week for dh so he can be at home more with my younger children.
I recognize that this response is 2.5 years after the fact, but I felt compelled to weigh in on this as my girlfriend and I are in somewhat of a similar situation. She and I are both 24 and when she began working as an elementary school teacher about three years ago (circa summer 2011) at the age of 21, she was making $50K per year. I graduated one year after her and pulled in a salary of $70K during my first year in the work (and still make approximately the same amount). Though we live in the District of Columbia, which is a relatively high income jurisdiction, our incomes work heavily in our favor because we chose to live in a studio apartment instead of a one or two-bedroom like many of our friends. Our mustache-like choices have put us in a position where we are able to save upwards of 50% of our take home pay per month while still being able to live quite comfortably in major metropolitan area. These numbers work, you just have to make them work for you.
