Feature request: Default selection of applications

I can imagine people want to create their own custimized AppSnap
installer with their own list of preffered applications.
I used to be a big fan of Wihu (Windows Installation Helper Utility,
http://www.kalytta.com/wihu.php) which enabled me to create my own
customized installer.
What i really miss from Wihu is a feature that enables you to define
what applications should already be selected when you start Wihu.
Since most of the time you install the same applications anyway, this
is a very confinient feature, it saves you the time of going through
all the application in the list and selecting the ones that you want
to be installed.

Maybe it would be a good idea to add this default selection feature to
AppSnap also.
I was thinking of a new entry which can then be added to every
application section in the db.ini, maybe something like
"selected=true"?

What I was planning was a favorites feature. Applications could be added or removed from that category. Once apps were favorite'd, you could easily select all and perform whatever action. I am also planning tags which would complement favorites.

Would that provide a reasonable solution for this?

Favorites, hmm that sounds even better ;)

With favorites, i presume you mean that you select a favorite, and
only the apps that are listed in that favorite will be visible in the
AppSnap gui?
That also has another advantage. People how want to create their own
custom AppSnap will no longer have to go into the db.ini file to
delete all the apps they don't want to be visisble. They can simply
choose a favorite to force a selection of apps to be visible instead.
That will also prevent from lots of different customized db.ini files
lying around everywhere.

I would, however, advise you to also make a command line parameter or
a line available in the config.ini file so that when AppSnap starts,
automatically the favorite is loaded. This could also significantly
improve startup times of a customized AppSnap.

Yeah! +1, thumbs up, and all that :) Didn't see this post before,

Looks like tags and categories are two different things..tags being
user categories basically, categories being "official" categories..
