Is there a way of inserting approach waypoints into a flight plan by picking the approach from the plate tab ?

Would it be possible to group Insterment approach procedures ? Say Approaches, Sids, Stars, Airport diagrams. I was looking at the plates for Minden Nv. KMEV, and don't know what "Min SW4ALT-- and 20 are. I also didn't know what the Minden - Two - Obstiacle - Rnav was.

Thank you,
Michael Z.

you can try inserting the approach waypoints into your flight plan, from the approach plate screen choose the "AP" button in the to left.

MEV doesn't have a STAR but does have a SID, MINDEN two departure which also serves as an ODP.  The "Min. SW4ALT-2" page is the requirements to use the airport as an IFR alternate, "Min. SW4TO-20" is the takeoff minimums and the obstacle departure procedure.   IMHO the ODP should be checked before departing IFR out of ANY airport, and I think any CFII should impress that on their instrument students.  Not following a ODP could result in encountering cumulus granite, in other words ignore ODPs at your own peril.

The AP button worked perfectly !!!! Thx. I haven't flown IFR for many years but finally equipted the aircraft for some "Soft" IFR flight. Doing simulations on the ground in preperation for update training and eventually IPC next year.

Addendum: Just tried the the AP button on Minden but it is Red and will not add the approach waypoints. It did work for KTVL Rnav 18. Not sure what the difference is.

I just tried updating all charts and plates. Then I selected KRNO Rnav 34R, but the AP button on the chart page is still Red.  I then tried Tagging the plate but still NoJoy. Not sure what I am doing wrong

Still don't understand why it works for the Ktvl Rnav GPS 18 approach but not for approaches at KMEV and KRNO. I'll test again with some Sacramento approaches today.

I tested some of the approaches in Sacramento. Many of them worked. Most if not all of the approaches to KMCC did not work. What determins if the AP button on the plates page is green (will transfer the approach fixes to the flight plan)?

Michael,

Keep in mind that feature is still considered experimental.  With that said I do not know where or how Avare pulls the data from the approach plates to install into the flight plan.  Also it isn't a feature I use so I haven't spent much time playing with it.

This is a known issue and the reason why it is still marked experimental. Current database producing code does not pull all the approaches, it is somewhat complex (many IAP for each plate, etc). I have new code (in python rather than C) which extracts a higher percentage (maybe approaching all of them??).  However, the dev team is still finalizing the way this will be implemented in the app.  (It would requires changes both to the app and back end databases).  Changes that break backwards compatibility (even for experimental features) must be few and far between because a non-trivial percentage of users are not up to date with the app.

Thank you for the explanation. I like many am running on older hardware. I believe my version is 10.0.5.

This leads into another topic that may require a new thread. I would like to transfer my Avare flight plans to my Dynon Skyview. I'm a C# programmer and learning Xamarin. If I had solved the sending data to Dynon problem, would it be as simple as reading a text file of saved flight plans ? I think not because of Android's VM isolation for each program.

I think this should be a new thread. Perhaps send me a private message, or add me to the new message thread.

Thank you,
MFZ

As of right now there is no way to move flight plans off of Avare to other devices (eg Dynon, Garmin, Avidyne, or to other Avare tablets).  You used to be able to save you flight plans to Google drive but Google changed the rules a little over a year ago resulting in the feature no longer working and thus disabled.

In terms of programming questions regarding Avare internals should probably be directed to Zubair.  I know Avidyne would gladly provide their toolkit to allow transferring flight plans from Avare to their IFD radios.

Hi all
There are ways to export the plans to other devices or save them.
The plans are stored in Downloads/com.ds.avare/plans.db file.
You can email them to yourself, then copy them to the same folder on the other device from the email.
You can also use USB to do that.
Or you can use Google drive.

I've got 4 saved flight plans but all I have in download/com.ds.avare is

user.db
user.db-journal

I was able to import a gpsx file from skyvector by moving the file to the directory listed in  Preferences>Storage and Downloads>User Data Folder.

thx,
MFZ
