Hi there. Just picked up Avare. I was wondering if you could import or upload your own approach plates. I'm a Canadian sim pilot and it seems all that is available for the airports I'm interested in are the aerodrome charts. I'm using android.

Is here a location on the file system that avare scans for PDFs or approach plate files?

Hi William.
Canada does Not provide free plates, and Avare cannot download them, as we do it for USA.

I am not sure what sim you are using but I recall some plates being available for MSFSX that you can use directly in the sim, may only be for USA?

In Avare you can create one Plate / Chart at the time, if you have the properly referenced / scale image, Search for CUSTOM on the Forum, but you would need Avare 768 or older version to be able to geo reference / create your CUSTOM chart / plate. TV

Thanks for the additional details. I download all my Canadian approach plates for free from fltplan.com and they are in PDF format. I just have to create a free account. How are they able to provide the approach plates for free?

I'm on xplane 11 and your application seems to be the only one that works on that platform and still provides reliable information.

But based on the searches I've seen on this forum it's much more involved than just dropping PDFs into an indexed folder. I guess I'll have to use another application and switch between them.

Hi William.
I think they create their own, and they are Not the official plates?
I am not sure if they have are properly referenced, if they are you can Tag them with Avare 768, one at the time, call them CUSTOM-PlateName.png  a lot of work, and then try them. The problem is that you have to be with 50NM of a US airport.
You can use all the USA Plates they are already tagged.
If you experience update delays let me know I can send you a compiled version of Avare IO  that fixes that.TV

I try not to ask that question.  Just enjoy it while it lasts. Crossing the border from Cleveland then return becomes a project. ....customs both ways, CANPASS, EAPIS, DHS, charts, plates, converting money, having your phone ready to use canadian lines without huge financial penalty, seeing weather on the other side of the border, two flight services.....etc.  What else am I forgetting?  About to do it for the first time in 25 years.
