I attended this webinar this past Monday.  In about 40 minutes the facilitator Thomas Daffen and colleague did a decent job providing an overview: pretty standard project manager presentation.

Most importantly for us (AvareX), they are very aware many of us programatically consume NOTAM information via screen-scraping from the DINS web page -- as does AvareX -- via https://www.notams.faa.gov/dinsQueryWeb/.  This is going away in less than a year.

They want to transition us to new services and APIs, and recognize they will break what folks are doing today.  If you register for the seminars (see FAASafety link at bottom), or contact them via not...@faa.gov you can get looped into notifications as new services arrive or are deprecated, etc.  They estimate DINS will be offline by end of 2025 (if I understood correctly).

Other notes:
April 30th 2026 project complete
Existintg SWIM-access users will low to no impact
AIXM 5.1 and GeoJSON; openAI https://www.openapis.org/
NOTAM origination, management, distribution
12,000 registered users, but hundreds of 100,000s of users consuming daily

FYI, and Blue Skies!

Now that AvareX no longer providing NOTAMs, and the DINS query site has been decommissioned, what is the plan going forward for providing NOTAMs?  Will AvareX return to the every-few-hours backend approach Avare used, or will AvareX be updated to use the new emerging APIs and continue to use the client-based approach, or something different?

BTW, there is a meeting this Thursday August 7 12:30PM EDT for technical implementers; if AvareX developers are interested please let me know and I will share the registration link.  The email is below:

The FAA’s Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) Modernization Office will launch a monthly Software Technical Interchange Meeting (TIM) series beginning Thursday, August 7 (see event details below).

These sessions are designed to support collaboration with stakeholders and users who develop software or oversee teams and activities that enable machine-to-machine access to NOTAMs. The forum will serve as a venue to ask technical questions, receive implementation guidance, and help facilitate a smooth transition to the FAA’s new API platform.

While the webinar is open to all, it is specifically tailored for third-party technical users. Please feel free to share the registration information with others who may be interested.

The FAA looks forward to working with you to support a safe and efficient NOTAMs transition.

Apparently the NOTAM outage in AvareX was short-lived, and the DINS query page is back up as well.

However, DINS NOTAM days are numbered and so this will eventually require a change for AvareX.  Any thoughts for transition?

Will see what API FAA creates and then move to it.
