I'm new at this, but I am a CAP mission pilot and would like to create a flight plan of a waypoints that make up our search pattern. I can create a program in excel that will generate a txt file with the waypoint format of xx.xxx&-yy.yyyy. for each point of the search pattern. I would then like to import this txt file into Avare. Could I copy the txt file string and paste it into the create a flight plan box of Avare?. That would solve my problem.

Hi Ray.

I am sure you already know that there is a CAP Grid that you can enable / display in Avare?

You can enter your own GPS Waypoints in the Flight plan in the format xx.xxxx&-yyy.yyyyy

Here is some more information you can read in the Help file and I also posted your message on for better more help:

KML Reading
Now you can see your points of interest (POIs) on the Map using KML import. You can generate a KML files of your POIs using Google Earth. Once you have a KML file, place it in a folder of your choice accessible by Avare (like /sdcard). Go to "Preferences->Storage->User Defined Waypoints" then borwse to the folder containing your KML file (like /sdcard). Restart Avare, and then your POIs will appear on the Map screen. You can search your points of interest in Find tab, then add them to a flight plan, or directly go to them. You can place multiple KML files in the folder, and Avare will parse all these files to generate a combined view of your POIs. However, the user may only define 100 POIs in all files combined.

The "Find" Button in the Menu at the bottom of the screen enables you to search for a Destination airport, VOR or waypoint.

KML Tracks
Options>Tracks On allow you to Enable Tracking, and turn the display of your flight Track on or off. Any time you'd like to record your flight Track, just tap the Options button and then the "Tracks Off" indicator button. That will turn on the Track feature, which creates a Google Earth & Google Maps compatible file on your device. Avare then periodically stores in this file the coded stream of text "bread crumb" location data from your active GPS receiver, and displays a Track connecting these bread crumbs on the Map view. To stop storing these bread crumbs, again tap Options and then "Tracks On" to see options and information regarding the file. Later you can view the file in Earth or Maps to "re-fly" your route.

Hi Ray and everyone.

I was able to test some ideas and see if we can generate a .kml, read it back in to help you with a Search.

Procedure was tested in a Samsung Tab4, should work in all devices.

Here is the short version:

1-Create a .kml file either by flying it and Track On in Avare, or Gearth. Hint: You can use MSFSX to create one using Slew or Fast simulation. See KSNA-KLGB "AvaCHrtTrk.jpg" the Track reloaded.

2-Move / Copy that file into a known / new Directory / Folder. See My file Path "MyFilePath.jpg"

3-In Options>Preference..Storage and Downloads>User Defined Waypoints/Plans navigate to the location you have your .kml file stored, see "AvaPathPref.jpg" in my device, Samsung Tab4.

4-Exit and restart Avare, your file should be parsed and displayed properly, if you have a good GPS signal for that area.

You can also hand enter your coordinates, lots of work, look at the "KSNA-KLGB.KML" file, open it in Word, Note pad...

Limitations:

1-Only one file per restart / Directory, but you can create multiple Directories, unless you want them parsed together / Combined.

2-Only 100 points.

I will try to expand on this, if you need more details, later tonight. TV
