So far Avare is doing what I need except for1 big issue that I haven't been able to sort out.  How to identify only the waypoints where the route bends in a flight plan.

The older Garmin GNS-430w/530w navigators do not know airways.  Each airway waypoint must be entered individually using the front knobs.  Most of the waypoints fall along straight lines and don't need to be entered in the navigator.  What really needs to be entered are those waypoints where airways bend.  My previous EFB (Naviator) offered the option of any listing waypoints at bends in the route.  I've looked for that feature in Avare, but haven't yet found it.  Am I missing something?  How can show a route with only its waypoints at bends?

There is also a second smaller issue.  Is there an easy way to select a non-airport waypoint along a route for a Direct-To reroute.  I am finding that long pressing a non-airport waypoint just identifies the latitude/longitude of the pressed point and not the waypoint.  In smooth air I can get close enough for it to be workable, but if there is a better way to select a non-airport waypoint, please share it with me (I recognize that I could go into the plan tab, type in the waypoint and add it to a route, but that is a chore in IMC).

Thanks in advance for your help.  Barry

Hi Barry
We don't have bend logic. If you put an issue on GitHub, I can look. But no one has asked then t before.

Avare does not have non airport waypoint pickup. AvareX does have it.

Also, AvareX manages bended routes. I just tried a plan going from TAPPA to BAABS on T295, and it fills in all the waypoints on the airway in between.

I think there is some confusion as to what is wanted and what Avare and AvareX do.

Both Avare and AvareX will follow an airway along with whatever bends are in the airway, in reality it just looks up all the waypoints and then navigates waypoint to waypoint.

What I believe Barry is looking for is to have Avare and AvareX identify where the bends occur on the airway so that those waypoints can be manually added to his GPS.  Not sure what the best way to highlight it is, plus what constitutes a bend? 1 degree? 10 degrees?  remember as you travel, especially east or west the heading will change due to the great circle navigation.

When I had an older GPS that didn't have airways I would look at the route and manually pick out the waypoints I thought were of importance and then put them into my GPS, if time and workload allowed I'd often add additional waypoints to my flightplan on the GPS in case the inevitable came "cleared direct *waypoint*"

Thanks to all for their input.  Looks like I will have to continue to manually identify airway bends.  I downloaded a copy of AvareX and it addresses the issue of Direct-To routing of a non-airport waypoint by long pressing.  I'm working to learn how to access the other features correctly.

Is there a Manual for AvareX (I haven't found one).  The Youtube videos are helpful, but it looks like the user interface has materially changed in some respects, so not everything is translatable.  If there is no User Guide, then I can continue to sort things out on my own.

Thanks again, Barry
