When I use Avare with Stratux I get a lot of multi-colored lines that delineate huge areas. Like I might get a blue boxy like thing that delineates the eastern half of the USA.
They are a  variety of colors and cover different spaces.  What are they?  Thanks!

Airmets and/or Sigmets via internet, or ADS-B.

An FAA collection of advisory areas. To make them all disappear, just
tap the Map tab (left-most at the bottom of the screen), then the round
Menu button above that tab, then the "Layer" box (second from the top in
the group of four on the lower right side of the screen). That's where
you choose the Layer type that Avare will overlay on the Map screen.
Note that in order to save busy pilots another button press, rather than
say LAYER, the text on that button changes based on what you've chosen
(default for a new Avare installation is METAR, otherwise it retains
your last choice).

If you choose No Layer the lines you describe vanish, as you can
imagine. METAR is presumably what you'll see when Avare is displaying
those colorful lines. NEXRAD will show any radar data available to
Avare via either Download from the Internet or from ADS-B In if you have
that.

As you may have noticed, you can change what's shown and how it's
displayed in Preferences.
Map->Menu->Preferences->Display->Weather->AIRMET/SIGMET Type
Is where you can choose which if any of those lines to display when you
have chosen METAR on the Map screen's "Layer" button. Flying VFR I like
Convective Outlook.

Map->Menu->Preferences->Display->Select Layer Transparency
Is where you can choose how opaque you'd like the layers to be. In
order to see through NEXRAD I like 50% or less.

Hope this helps.

One step further, if you long press on the chart/airport/whatever inside one of the colored boxes/areas you'll find that the airmet or sigmet will have the text outlined on the display with the same color shown on the chart so you can see what the airmet or sigmet is for.

John and Jeff Thank you very much for your great replies.  Now I feel like a dork for not reading instructions...but hey  that's what Forums are for...the Wise and the unwise.  Thanks Again!
