I have it working, but needs some refinement. Is there any interest in this at all?

Congratulations and thanks for your efforts. :)

I didn't even know there's a way to do it via software. Are you
detecting location in the UAT string somehow, or are you referencing an
online FAA source?

I probably wouldn't use it in planning at all since UAT works here at
home, but can imagine rarely wanting to in flight. Like if I'm wanting
wx at a distant airport but not seeing any via UAT. I'm VFR, usually
touring low level (1.5-2k'AGL) and almost never on flight plan, so the
only other scenario would be in busy airspace when there's no flight
following available and I'd like UAT traffic (don't have ADSB In yet).

Again, thanks for sharing your work! :)

Every UAT ground station uplink message contains the tower coordinates that it originated at. AvareHelper does not pass these values to Avare, so modifying AvareHelper was necessary in order to pass on the tower coordinates. I modified Avare to display the tower icon on the said coordinates.

Foreflight displays ADS-B UAT tower locations on its map, and I have used it in flight because knowing the locations of the towers you are receiving is somewhat useful in judging where to put your receiver during flight. Regardless, the feature can be added but I just wanted to judge interest in this. Perhaps later I would add statistics for each tower to show the number of messages received and their message types, which is a good way to determine if you are receiving UAT traffic/NEXRAD/etc

Nice. :)

That could be a useful option, tho I personally wouldn't want it in
flight. Seems best if it's an option. Most users would probably want
it on or off, and those wanting a quick toggle could maybe have another
option to add a button of some sort on the Map screen.

FF is far more complex than I hope Avare ever becomes, but I'm glad to
see any and all options. Especially those that can be add-ons rather
than built into the app. So in this case maybe it can be an option in
the Avare I/O app settings, though I guess much of the code would need
to be in Avare itself unless there's some way around that.

> number of messages received and their message types

I like how the HIZ app does that outside Avare, though it's seldom
useful to me in flight.

So cool that you're working on this! :)

I think it is interesting... Mostly because I've never received any if these packets in flight and it would be cool to help debug why. I'm not sure what use knowledge of these towers provides in a strictly navigational sense. That being the case I would like to see this be a non default option or a plug in.

I think it is cool that you figured out how to do it and I look forward to trying it out sometime.

Pete
