First, Thankyou for all you do with Avare, You make the world a better place.
I have Avarex on an Android Tablet and have directly plugged in a Ping EFB ADS-b thumb drive for traffic.  So far it does not seem to be working. Is there something I'm missing?

Second, I have a Garmin transponder 345.  I take it Avarex is not compatible with the greed of Garmin?

Pair your device to the 345's bluetooth.

Start Avare/X and io to the bluetooth matching the 345.

By the way, I can stream music to my Audio panel AND get ADSB-In at the same time with bluetooth.

This is more info on the Garmin 345.  I does NOT look like it is compatible with Avarex.

Probably not happening any time soon if at all. Garmin does not want to talk to anybody else but their own equipment this their data stream would need to be reverse engineered, this takes a lot of time along with access to an operating unit. This is the main reason I did not install a Garmin ADS-B unit in my aircraft and why I will not install any additional Garmin equipment in my panel going forward.

When I looked for a transponder I looked for one that supported GDL90 as I knew I could use any EFB I chose and not forced to use one or two specific ones that Garmin blessed.

At Oshkosh I asked a few vendors about interfacing with Garmin stuff and I got pretty much the same answer from everybody, Garmin is not interested in sharing their data stream format with anybody.

It *may* be possible to add the Garmin format to AvareX, it is my understanding that the proprietary protcol Garmin uses (GDL-89?) is not that different than the industry standard GDL-90.  One issue is right now the iOS version of AvareX does not support bluetooth for anything due to Apple's restrictions on bluetooth's use, and Garmin only uses bluetooth.  Which means if the functionality is added it will only be available on Android, of course this can change in the future.

What is needed at a minimum to even investigate feasibility is a data capture showing the output from a Garmin device and then the question from there is can we decipher it.  Right now the focus is on the core application, so adding the Garmin protocol is not on the near term radar, unless of course somebody wants to take on the task of obtaining a data dump and provide the data format, this might move the integration up in the line.

Oh, yes, my error, I missed a search on "if" GDL90 bluetooth and then  needing serial data as the bluetooth on Garmin is proprietary.

UAT and 327 for me, Bluetooth ADSB-In to Avare/X
