Hi,

I ran into a problem flying approaches in IMC yesterday. I could not pull up approach plates on AvareX, not pleasant to put it mildly.

I can reproduce the problem on the ground. It happens when my Samsung Tab A7 Lite (Android 14) is connected to my Stratux (running v1.6r1) and the Radar option is active in AvareX. When I tap on plates in the airport menu, it takes minutes (1-5) for charts to show up.

A probably related problem is that when I zoom in or out on the main map, the map sometimes vanishes and can take several minutes to reappear. Or I see a coarse-resolution map that becomes high-resolution after 1-3 minutes.

When the tablet is connected to the internet and not to the Stratux, everything works fine when Radar is activated. I guess the problem is related to the connection between the tablet and the Stratux and how the radar information is being processed.

This is more than just a nuisance when flying IMC

Has anyone run into a similar issue?

Happy Memorial Day

Nepomuk

Hi,

Following up on my previous post. I tried with my Pixel 10 Pro connected to my Stratux, and I observed the same issue.

Can Stratux users share their experience? Do you also experience minutes-long wait times for plates to load when WX radar is activated? Make sure you are in airplane mode and not connected to your cell service.

I am interested in the Stratux software version you are using, if you do not experience any issues.

Thanks

Nepomuk

Radar is internet based. You don't need it enabled for adsb radar. Disable radar and topo layers when flying.

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. If the radar option is internet-based, how do I control the FIS-B-based radar image? Particularly, how do I change the opacity of the FIS-B-based radar image?

You cannot change fis-b radar transparency.

Stratux version1.6r1-eu028, current AvareX on a Samsung A35, mid tier, Android 16 and a current ipad air pro m2 current daabases and versions, v0.0.105+105 ios and  Android both.

Looking at plate renders, wifi NOT on stratux, weather, radar and plates all controllable and switching plates took just a few seconds from ils 35r ksdf to rnavy gps 35r ksdf on both.

Sectional, plate, radar and weather layers on with startux connectex to wifi, radar via ads-b in stratux wifi- your issue, airplane mode on on both, at ksdf with strong adsb-in, I am able to change approaches at same speed as when NOT on Stratux.  No issue.

Radar, we have some wx south and the weather layer shows controllable %, Radar, Plate, Weather all 100%, plate control is normal and loading normal.

Again, this started on solid wifi internet then switched to airplane mode, wifi stratux.  Local traffic voice chiriping at me and presenting via adsb-in stratux, 1 mile from the GBT location and a browser check of the stratux gbt reception of data.

The radar returns change via weather slider, not radar, and I left radar on 100% over 15 minutes.

Hi Rich,

Thank you for doing this.

I would appreciate a clarification of whether you can reproduce my problem:

Sectional, plate, radar and weather layers on with startux connectex to wifi, radar via ads-b in stratux wifi- your issue,

Here, I interpret that you can reproduce my problem.

airplane mode on on both, at ksdf with strong adsb-in, I am able to change approaches at same speed as when NOT on Stratux.  No issue.

However, in the second part of the sentence, it sounds like you cannot reproduce my issue.

Best

No, I cannot reproduce the problem.  Thank you for asking for feedback!

Hence my explaining I started with initial internet connection in AvareX on both devices, like a flight planning session, then airplane mode ON, then Stratux connection.

Both my mid grade A35 droid and nice iPad were equal in rapid approach plate selection and changing, while connected to a Stratux that was in GBT contact for ADSB-In, which also is a variable- I was at work, had everything, SDF has at least 1 if not 2 GBTs/towers.

I can try again at home, outside of GBT reception, which is likely more typical.

Ok, I have a path forward. I will update my Stratux to the latest version.

A7 Lite specs out at 3GB RAM.

My A35 and iPad are at least double that.

I have never tried AvareX on my 2GB ram devices.

Avare legacy runs fine from a microSD card on my old $100 8" Samsung SM-T290 and an older, awesome 500ish nits screen in sunlight Nexus 2 from main memory.

Is 3 GB RAM enough for AvareX?

I reran your Stratux issue at home, not receiving GBTs and again, no similar inability to load/select/control plates or layer renders.

Anyone else have feedback on this?

Rich
