Today's flight was my first opportunity to use AvareX in the plane with my Dual XGPS-170 ADS-B receiver, and there were some issues that came up.
The first was that a steady stream of errors (exclamation point in a red circle) throughout the whole flight The majority were due to one or both of the following:
a) Notice
Unable to download NOTAM:
ClientException with SocketException:
Failed host lookup: '
rfinder.asalink.net (OS Error: No address associated with hostname, errno = 7), uri=
https://rfinder.asalink.net/avionet_run.php
b) Notice
Failed to download weather from Internet.
AvareX indicated that it was connected to my XGPS-170, and all the normal lights showing the receiver's proper operation and communication were present. But it seems like AvareX was looking to communicate with the internet as well (and failing). Unlike Avare, I do not see a setting on AvareX to select whether ADS-B information is to be received from the internet or an ADS-B receiver. What am I doing wrong?
The other issue was that AvareX showed very little traffic in a region and at a time when there are never fewer than a dozen traffic markers on screen when I use Avare (or any other traffic-capable EFB app). There would be long stretches when AvareX was showing no traffic, then one or two would pop up and then quickly go away.
Any ideas what's happening?
BTW, I switched back to Avare for the flight home and the traffic display was normal.
