Today's flight was my first opportunity to use AvareX in the plane with my Dual XGPS-170 ADS-B receiver, and there were some issues that came up.

The first was that a steady stream of errors (exclamation point in a red circle) throughout the whole flight  The majority were due to one or both of the following:

a) Notice
Unable to download NOTAM:
ClientException with SocketException:
Failed host lookup: 'rfinder.asalink.net (OS Error: No address associated with hostname, errno = 7), uri=https://rfinder.asalink.net/avionet_run.php

b) Notice
Failed to download weather from Internet.

AvareX indicated that it was connected to my XGPS-170, and all the normal lights showing the receiver's proper operation and communication were present.  But it seems like AvareX was looking to communicate with the internet as well (and failing).  Unlike Avare, I do not see a setting on AvareX to select whether ADS-B information is to be received from the internet or an ADS-B receiver.  What am I doing wrong?

The other issue was that AvareX showed very little traffic in a region and at a time when there are never fewer than a dozen traffic markers on screen when I use Avare (or any other traffic-capable EFB app).  There would be long stretches when AvareX was showing no traffic, then one or two would pop up and then quickly go away.

Any ideas what's happening?

BTW, I switched back to Avare for the flight home and the traffic display was normal.

The level of ADSB traffic displayed is an issue that several of us have had with AvareX vs Avare, but despite requests for it to match either Avare's level, or for providing the ability of the user to adjust it to the flying environment, and comfort level they desire, no change has yet been made. Maybe one more user request will help encourage the developers to make that modification.
Thanks for adding your experience in support of that.

Is AvareX now compatible with BLUETOOTH ADSB-In?

Hack a one year countdown timer if you wish  Avare platform growth.

There are two roadblocks- 1- Apple is enshittifying iOS and I forsee both app and device issues and high contact time dev team issues- ie full time job.

2- AvareX multiplatform coded is neither Avare legacy vibe nor Foreflight vibe.  Definitely odd to this Andtoid bias GenX Avare legacy fanboi who works in the airlines with iPad Jeppesen EFK like most.

If you want to sell, your market will come as the new owners milk Foreflight dry.  Pick a final vibe and alsi consider your new user- the bilked Foreflight fed  up with higher costs, less responsive teams, etc- corporate enshitification.

I hoped Avare X would have matched Avare Legacy by now, for me, I don't see it.  You could charge/ more for Legacy and I'd happily pay for it.

I totally agree.  Avare Legacy was/is hard to beat.

Just a quick note to Avare Legacy users.  I had a problem Saturday where I could not get any ADS-B traffic to load.  Somehow, The old I/O program, which was still on my tablet, was running in the background, which blocked Avare from picking up the signals.  Anyway, make sure that old I/O program is uninstalled so that doesn't happen to you.

Any thoughts about the other issue of error messages relating to downloading weather to the app?  One seems to be saying that AvareX is looking for weather info from the internet even when it is connected to an ADS-B receiver via bluetooth (IIRC, the tablet's wifi was off during the flight).  The other seems to be a failure to download Notam information, but with a much more detailed and complicated backstory than the weather message.

I was looking through some other threads and found one that may be relevant to this thread.  It was another user of AvareX having problems with ADS-B traffic.  That user was asked if they had another app on their device also connected to their ADS-B receiver, because for ADS-B to operate properly in AvareX it must be the only app using the receiver's data.

In my case I did not have another app on my tablet, but my wife had a separate tablet running AvareX and set up to be connected to the ADS-B receiver by bluetooth.  I have no idea if hers was receiving and displaying traffic and weather, or had any error messages.  I didn't take the time to check on what it was doing, and my wife did not know what to expect from the app (so she had not frame of reference to judge possible flaws in its performance).  So she did not comment on it.

Should 2 separate tablets each running AvareX be able to connect to the same ADS-B receiver by bluetooth?  If not, could that have been the source of my problem?

Is there a reason to avoid an options menu in AvareX? Being able to customize the user experience on legacy Avare was great. The sliders are useful but not everything works well with sliders.

Thanks.

Options are not bad but having all of them in one place is a bad UI design. There needs to be connection to the feature it's modifying
