I've been using Avare on my Droid Razr Max and it works great. Looking at stepping up to a Droid tablet and need some user feedback.

For all of you using Avare with a tablet what's the best thing going? I think I would prefer a smaller physical size than something like the Ipad. I played with the Ipad Mini running foreflight and size wise it seems about right for me.
Any droid tablets in that size range that would do the trick?
Looking forward to your input/s..

Nexus 7 works for me. Big enough to be useful for plates, and I can easily slide it in my pocket when I unfold the bike and head to the town.

I've been using a (generation 1) 7" Samsung Galaxy Tab for over 2 years. It's the right size for my 152. It has a very good built-in GPS and can run all the well-known aviation apps (Avare, Avilution, AnywhereMap). The OS of the 1st generation can't be upgraded and stays at Android 2.2. Generations 2 and on can be upgraded.

I run the nexus 7 (2013) it works great and is only $250. There was some issues when I first got it with the GPS loosing lock, but Google fixed it. I have a case that folds like a book and makes it real nice,  can open the cover and slide it into a pocket on my knee board and not worry about dropping it. battery times with a fast gps interval and screen full bright are in the 4+ hour range. The size fits great on my knee board and I can easily flip it over to the side and write with my pencil if needed.

I also use a used 1st generation Nexus 7 that I got for a good price on eBay. As Jeff says, the size is just right for use on a kneeboard. The internal GPS on mine seems to loose lock in the aircraft (Piper Archer) when it's on my lap. I have a little bluetooth GPS puck that I use instead. I pair it with the tablet using "Bluetooth GPS Provider" that I found on Google Play.

I was hopeful that Avare's addition of bluetooth ADS-B support might allow me to pair the Nexus with my GPS puck but I haven't been successful with that combo.

From what I've seen in various forums the Nexus 7 is very popular if you want a smaller-form tablet.  I've been running Avare on my Nexus 10 without issue, though I don't use it in a plane yet.  I'd probably spring for a Nexus 7 if I wanted something a bit smaller for a yoke mount/etc.

I've used a Droid X that's larger, clearer and more useful than my panel GNS430 but the internal GPS is marginal in the cockpit unless it has a clear view of the sky (in the windshield). It's still handy as an EFB and chart w/o GPS.

I too have a 1st gen Nexus 7 (N7) and it's great.  Size is perfect for kneeboard, but the GPS is marginal there. In a C-172 the N7 GPS works nearly all the time when held securely to the yoke with a miniature bungee cord I found.

I just got a Samsung Galaxy S4 phone at Costco on a Verizon update, and the GPS is quite remarkable.  Seems to get a GPS lock anywhere in the cockpit, and the handy GPS page in Avare shows it locking on many more satellites than any other device I've tried. The screen's a little smaller than I like, but for many pilots it might be big enough since it's substantially larger than the GNS430 screen many use.

I think in terms of price, specs and reviews, the N7 (especially the new one) blows everything else away in that size. If you have the space for the N10, I think price, specs and reviews on that also come out on top. The one gripe I have with the Nexus tablets is their lack of an SD card slot, but there are workarounds.

Pretty much any Android device including the Kindle will work with Avare, tho with some you have to use the Manual Installation process described on this web page.

I also have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" and it works great.  The GPS on it is solid and is the perfect size for an airplane.  Makes it easy to handle, easy to hide under the seat.

Dont know how well this will serve Avare, but at $59, its worth a try?

I'm using an Asus Transformer Pad Infinity TF700 T with the Super Brite 10 inch screen.  I spent a lot of time researching tablets where I can see the charts in direct sunlight, when I am flying.  As your eyes get older, you need a bigger screen. Most of the time the tablet sits in my lap while flying but I can tuck this tablet beside me when not needed.  AVARE works great on this device.

I use the Motorola Xyboard 8.2 and it works fantastic. A little bigger screen than nexus7 and lighter and thinner. The tablet has a gyroscope and a great built-in gps. Battery life seems to be pretty good and it is water resistant and has gorilla glass. You can pick them up on ebay for a lot better price I paid for mine a year ago.

Here is a link to a pic of my Xyboard mounted on a leg mount. Works great in my Piper Colt.  http://i926.photobucket.com/albums/ad101/shortwing22/2013-04-14115546_zps2190ff63.jpg
