Hi George.

I posted part of your message, see below, in the Avare Forum https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/apps4av-forum for others to get you better help.

I am not sure how, and where from, you want to xfter fplans from but many users copy and paste from a .txt file into the Create window. I've read that some people were able to xfer files from other sources. For more help follow the  Transfer Flight plans from other sources post in the Forum. TV

>>I use Avare and wanted to know how to import flight plans. I looked at the various formats and I can write a converter from FPL, GPX, whatever, but what I don't have is 'where Avare stores the FlightPlans' and 'a sample format'. I looked on the Forums, but they get off track - they start talking about importing FPs and end up talking about Web chart services.

Any suggestions on how to do this or where to go for more data?<<

You can choose where you want to store imported flight plans in the Preferences.
 - Menu > Preferences > Storage and Downloads > User Defined Waypoints/Plans

Next, select the "Try using SD card folder" option button.  The default path on my tablet is '/sdcard/Android/data/com.ds.avare'

There's a lot of stuff in there so, using a file manager, I created a new folder there ('User Plans') to keep them separated from the rest of the files.

Now, when going to the Menu > Preferences > Storage and Downloads > User Defined Waypoints/Plans,
I scrolled down the list to the newly created 'User Plans' directory, tapped to select it, the tapped "OK"

Now whenever I import a flight plan (.GPX) file from another source like SkyVector, I use the file manager to store it in that folder and it's available on the list of stored flight plans in Avare.

Notice that the flight plan name may not be the same as the file name created.  In my case, I created a flight plan from KABC to KXYZ and named the file 'Trip for today.GPX' but it shows up on the Avare list as simply 'KABC-KXYZ'
That may be a SkyVector thing, I'm not sure.

Thanks for the clear step by step outline, Dan. It will be helpful for
everyone wanting to import Plans.

In case anyone else encounters it, I want to mention the SD card
problems in Android. I've had trouble with SD cards on several devices,
and it seems to change with every Android update. Sometimes they won't
work at all, and other times they've "inexplicably" stopped working
(explained when I realize there was a background Android update). This
applies to loading the Avare app on SD, and also loading charts there.

Clearly some users need to use the SD due to space limitations in their
internal memory, but I managed to delete and rearrange some other apps
and data and put Avare and all its files in the default internal memory.
For whatever reason(s), setting the camera app to use SD always worked
fine and freed up a lot of memory. No more hassles.

One of the many things I like about Avare is this Forum, where helpful
aviators like you can share their experiences. This is especially
helpful with Android apps, since we have such a vast spectrum of devices
and Android versions. This diversity brings many advantages, and the
sharing here goes far beyond what could be viably done in the Help file
even if it were longer than Churchill's memoirs. So thanks again to
everyone volunteering Q&A here. :)
