This last Sunday 8/31/25 I fulfilled my dream of becoming a pilot and passed my private pilot check-ride using AvareX. On the check-ride while flying under pressure I was able to easily do everything required for a safe flight. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has contributed to making this program what it is today and into the future. I did a free trial of Garmin Pilot, but cancelled it because I enjoyed the simplicity of AvareX and the fact that it functions with my second-hand Stratux. I am not an apple person. I have used it with a Samsung phone, PC, Samsung tablet, and an Alldocube Iplay 60 Mini Pro and I works great on all of them. I hope to post a video on YouTube soon that just goes through the basics of use which I hope will reduce some of the repeat questions that come up.

Some of my wishes are:

  1. An automatic memory which will remember where the map was centered the last time it was used and open back up to the same area. On the same note, if it would not erase a partially made flight plan when exited it would be nice as well. There were a couple times when I accidently exited or my device died and I had to completely restart.
  2. The ability to search for airports near towns for times when you don't know the airport identifier.
  3. An estimated time of arrival or time remaining for the whole trip. I believe currently it only shows the time to the next waypoint.
  4. A way to make checklists saved under the aircraft so that if you fly multiple aircraft simply selecting the aircraft will also switch the checklists to those associated with that particular aircraft.
  5. Is the airport diagram supposed to automatically show once landed? I can't seem to figure it out. Also I could not find a georeferenced airport diagram for KLGD where I did my check-ride. It may just not exist in general.
  6. A left click function could be useful on a PC or if using a mouse on a tablet. maybe left click to add a waypoint or to drag an already added waypoint.
  7. A way to delete a waypoint from the map view. If your route has a bunch of gps coordinates, it can be hard to find the correct one to delete if you need to get rid of one.
Overall I am extremely pleased with AvareX and plan to continue using it going forward. Again thank you all for creating such a great product and keeping it free!

I remembered a couple more wishes:
8. when entering altitude you always have to click twice on the altitude in order to enter a new altitude. Minor inconvenience, but maybe an easy fix.
9. When briefing and filing a flight plan the time field is very confusing for me. I have learned that you enter local time and then it converts it to universal time once you click the next box or file the plan. Also when I get a brief for a flight in a different time zone it uses the local time at my current location, not where the flight will take place so it can be an hour off. I almost feel that just entering it in universal time would be more simple, or if using local time have it state the local time zone it is using.

Sorry for the long list and if none of it changes it is still a wonderful program I will happily continue to use.
Thanks!

Big Congratulations on your accomplishment and the freedom to have more
fun and flexibility as you continue to learn!

Big Thanks for paying it forward and wanting to help!

Thanks also for offering you suggestions & requests.

To me the biggest difference with Avare & AvareX is that everyone
involved in any way is part of the team. Those who actively contribute
in any way (including posts here, or even just using and enjoying) earn
our appreciation imo.

Congrats Joe!
This is so awesome. PPL is a hard and long process, with many doubts in the way.
Thanks for your excellent suggestions.

Congratulations, Joe! Getting your pilot's license is a great accomplishment, one that you'll refine and grow from over the years.
Thanks also for the suggestions: these are the way that AvareX will get better, and having them clearly and succinctly articulated is an important part of the development process.
