I'm wondering if there are "alternative" ways to input a flight plan to Avare. My particular goal would be to take a plan from the AOPA flight planner and get it into Avare "easily".

One possible "meeting point" could be that I can easily get a plain text version of the AOPA plan. E.g.

39.9534/-105.5286 39.9426/-105.676 40.0573/-106.3709 39.8973/-106.7582 39.5763/-107.1234 39.2044/-106.8861 39.1726/-106.872 39.1178/-106.9022 39.097/-106.9564 39.1225/-106.8919 39.1779/-106.8644 KASE 39.1866/-106.8074 39.1286/-106.7554 39.1286/-106.6503 39.1067/-106.6071 39.1091/-106.565 39.0989/-106.5403 39.0707/-106.5197 39.0782/-106.3137 39.2351/-106.3132 39.4469/-106.1422 39.563/-106.1429 39.6048/-106.0577 39.6116/-105.9822 39.6389/-105.8853 39.6886/-105.8709 39.6997/-105.8489 39.7012/-105.7239 39.7625/-105.6608 39.744/-105.4932

But I can't get that in from the user interface elements that I currently understand/know about. Is there something I should know? Or is perhaps the format of Avare's saved flight plans something that I should investigate? Perhaps I can convert the above into whatever Avare already recognizes?

Any thoughts would be gratefully received.

I have an app that creates CAP search pattern flight plans that I copy to the clipboard.  Then in Avare long press on the input field of ‘create new plan’ and you get the option to ‘paste’ which it gets it from the clipboard.  One more thing, that program separates the waypoints with an & not a / so you might try replacing the /s.

Avare directly supports the following formats:

1 - GPX, in the code GpxPlanParser.java
2 - SkyVector, in the code SkvPlanParser.java

You might be able to do something with cut & paste somehow. sed & regex are your friends here..

Or you could write a new parser to handle the AOPA flight plan format. Which doesn't seem to be all that difficult.

Thank you @konareef & Brad, these ideas work perfectly. sed makes light work of converting the forward slashes to & and the result pastes into the new plan window just fine. I might take a look at the sources you mention, Brad, anyway, I would like to get my hands in this and that could be a good place to start.

Cheers,
Simon
