Hello,

I'm a total noob here 😁, I've found the app being mentioned in a YT video and wanted to install it. Unfortunately the "install" is grayed out, telling me my Pixel 5 (Android 12) is not compatible 😮.

Thoughts?

Thank you,
Andrej

I have a Pixel 5 with Avare installed on it. But, the version is 8.1.7. And Google Play Store says that is the latest version for this phone. I believe the latest released version is 10.0.8.

I can't comment on why it doesn't work for you as it should. I do know that Google has "tightened" up a lot of their APIs over the past year. And that can make things difficult if one does not use the compatibility libs.

Are you outside the United States?  If so, you will have to sideload the app, as there is no support.

You could try the Manual Installation process outlined on the Apps4Av
website:

Good catch, Richard. The .ch domain is Switzerland. Andrej, the Avare
app is intended solely for U.S. aviation, since it's designed to use
only our FAA charts and other official materials which are provided
free. It will work anywhere, via the manual install ("sideload")
process with those FAA materials but that's not so useful in other
countries. You can also load the UNofficial charts available in the
section for Downloads in Avare but again they're less useful and not
legal for primary reference in flight. I've used Avare that way
traveling in Europe and New Zealand, including during the commercial
flights.

Maybe this is slightly off-topic, but in light of the comments above, what are the most useful "UNofficial charts" to download into Avare for General Aviation flights in the UK, and in Western Europe?  I realize they are not for primary navigation reference but still it would be handy to have Avare in the cockpit with workable aviation charts, if possible.

Israel (expired vfr), Slovenia (expired vfr), and then large swaths of very old TPC (tactical pilotage charts) and ONC (operational navigation charts).  None of these have had recent maintenance and would not be an appropriate charts for navigation.

I agree of course, but... with family in Canada I typically fly VFR
there with current Canadian paper charts and GNS-430W panel, yet still
use Avare. I like that it's vastly superior for planning and even often
in flight, while cross-referencing with the certified options for
currency and supplementary info.

I'm glad to see that more of these carts have gradually found their way
into Avare's options in Downloads, because it broadens capabilities.
More importantly, my guess is it may be helpful for internationally
based pilots. Also those integrating Avare into sims and autopilots. I
guess it's a bit of work to prepare them for Avare, and maybe some
concern about adding to the burden on our free servers? Maybe
international users have come forward to do the conversion for their
country/region and the Apps4Av Dev Team has offered to add them in the
Download options?
