Due to required upgrades of the SSL (Encryption libraries) on the
registration server, we can no longer support Android 4.4.2 (KitKat).
The registration server in addition to handling user registrations also
interfaces with Leidos to process flight plans. Leidos recently forced
our hand to upgrade the SSL Libraries so we could to continue to connect
to them, however the upgrade had the unfortunate side effect of
disabling SSL3.  SSL3 was determined several years ago to be highly
insecure and is no longer enabled in the SSL libraries and since Android
4.4.2 only supports SSL 3.0, those devices are no longer able to connect
and register.

Currently if you have a tablet with Android 4.4.2 that is currently
registered you should be able continue to use the tablet but you will
not be able to unregister the tablet or file flight plans.  In addition
there are two chart servers available, only the "apps4av.net" server
will available to Android 4.4.2, the "bubble.org" server will not
connect to Android 4.4.2 (Menu -> preferences -> Storage and Downloads
-> Charts Download Server) due to the same SSL incompatibility.

In terms of testing, the oldest tablet I have available to me to test
with is running Android 7.0 (Nougat) and after some adjustments this
morning on the registration server I can now successfully register and
file flight plans with it, I have not tested 5.0 (Lollipop) or 6.0
(Marshmallow) as I do not have devices with those versions available to
me for testing, but I can confirm via the system logs that Android
versions 5.1.1 and 6.0.1 are connecting successfully to the "bubble.org"
chart server so I have no reason to not believe they will work fine
against the registration server but would ask for some user feedback for
confirmation.

Some Android History - KitKat was release in late 2013 and Google
stopped releasing security updates for KitKat in October 2017 and the
devices became officially unsupported in March 2020.  I know it doesn't
help those running KitKat but according to Google, only 1.47% of the
active Android devices are still running KitKat.
