Hi Mike
The app requires subscription now beyond one region.

It came from the VFR area plates, they are not in a group and listed by state. I have Northwest set for everything else. Thanks.

I wasn’t aware of this new requirement, and I have to say I’m disappointed to learn about it. The cost itself is not the issue; rather, requiring a subscription puts Avare in a different category, alongside iFly, DroidEFB, Garmin Pilot, and similar apps.

Avare was always special because it was completely free and came with no meaningful limitations. I thought the previously introduced subscription for transferring flight plans between devices was reasonable because it did not fundamentally change that model. Restricting chart coverage by geography, however, feels different and seems to move away from what made Avare unique.

Which is another reason why I strongly encouraged the coder to charge a one time fee / membership like Plex.

I don't expect substantial updates to Avare and what I use now is 'good enough' for the last 5 years.  I couldn't figure out AvareX, its loaded with features but what I want is weather, metars and traffic.

So Avare legacy fulfills that and works well.

I agree with the way AVARE is now.  When my friend that is stuck with an iPhone uses AVAREX things constantly change and are difficult to use.  When I need to check traffic I go back to AVARE.  Another friend that I referred to AVAREX indicated that his traffic does not show.

I've archived the 'last version' of no-sub avare to ensure its available.

I've used Avidyne screens for 20 years, and it works good enough.

Sometimes, things are good enough.

Would I like a few custom features on Avare?  You bet.  Will I ever get them? No.

As such, I was willing to pay a one time flat fee for use, rather than a subscription model for future promised development.

:)

Thanks!

archived version link,  I've put it up via mega drop site.

I assume the coder doesn't mind. if an issue, delete this post and let me know.  Use at your own risk, I have it installed on my tablet and it works without issue.

Hi All.
I was able to compile a version (11.1.5) of legacy Avare in which the paid subscription to download more than one chart is disabled (all users are entitled). I'm strong proponent of open source code idea.
I anyone is interested, send me an email and I will share the APK with you.
Important:
I renamed the extension of the installation file to .TXT to prevent the Google drive from blocking it. So, you have to rename it back to .APK.

Regards, TJ

So…is there a no-fee method for those of us near a chart area boundary to deal with the one-area-at-a-time limit?
