Has anyone tested using stratus 3 with AvareX on IPad? I couldn't get it to work. The stratus I was testing with is in open mode. Thanks

I have used the S3 with X, but ours is in FF mode.  It was easier to just leave it that way for the other partners.  I installed "ADSB Monitor2" and everything worked fine.

I'm not finding anything on ADSB Monitor2. Is that an app you installed?

The application you are looking for "ADS-B Monitor" was written by Andrew Sarangan and seems to have disappeared from the playstore, probably due to lack of updates for for the build libraries to support new Android versions as the program hasn't been updated in 5 years.

The program can be downloaded directly from his website and then "side loaded"

https://m.apkpure.com/ads-b-monitor/org.sarangan.adsb/download/1.1

The program has a simple slider to change from Foreflight mode to open mode along with some status indicators.

The program "ADS-B Monitor" is for Android, I don't know if there is an equivalent for iOS.

If anyone is interested, I rewrote the app recently to allow locally saving the incoming ADSB data, but that is incidental to the Foreflight/GDL-90 switching feature.

You can download and install the apk directly from the github site (not normally recommended unless you trust the site, so do it at your own risk).

OK, I appreciate all the info.
Maybe I should reword my question, or start a new post. Is anyone running avarex on ios (iphone or ipad), and if so, what ads-b receiver are you using? Thanks

On my iPad I use a Stratux, wifi connection, port 4000.

A solid vendor, if non DIY is Crew Dog:

Internal GPS $380

External Antenna (still has internal also) $400

Figure your mounting spaces and methods.  Whether powerbank alone or USB aircraft outlet.

Internal GPS works well with the right mounting location, but you can configure for an external wired GPS antenna if needed.

The Stratus 3 and 4 in Open Mode should work, but the 4 runs $850.

If you want to go DIY, this Amazon page, I suggest the Ultimate Kit, Large Antennas, $215 and a Raspberry Pi 3B+ $54.  The wired switch for $10 is nice as it save wear and tear on the 2.0A draw microUSB jack on the Pi board.

The powerbank used with passthrough chrarging is a nice option, 6000mah is about 3.5 hours run time.

Compare prices vs ebay store or Amazon.

I'd highly recommend a magnetic USB cable for the Raspberry Pi, since the power port is used for nothing but power you do not need one that supports data.  I used this when I was still using the RPi in the airplane and never had a problem with it.

With the magnetic cord you leave a small stub in the micro USB port and simply pull the magnetically attached cord off.  Search for "magnetic micro usb cable".

I'm running a Stratux with long antennas on my Galaxy S6 Lite tablet and Samsung S25 phone. No idea what port. Parts purchased from Amazon. Kit with Rasberry Pi board is $279. Add a power bank and a few minutes assembly. Works great.
