I was trying to troubleshoot why my normal X-Plane + Avare setup wasn't working correctly with Avare just now, and after poking around here, and looking at the app, discovered a new "IO" tab in the main Avare app.  It appears that the Avare External I/O Plugin, which I'd been using to communicate with X-Plane, has been incorporated into the main app.  The new setup is not working for listening to X-Plane position reports at the moment (but I was having trouble earlier, before this new version, so this particular problem may be unrelated).

For folks who are having trouble with ADS-B In (or other external services) not working, were you using the I/O plugin to do that communication?  I wonder if this new setup is causing all the problems, as the workflow has necessarily changed.

The problem that prompted me to check into this was that the External I/O Plugin was reporting "Avare not connected," which has never been a problem for me before.  You might check to see if you have something similar happening.

I take it back, X-Plane is properly working with the new IO tab.  I had assumed that because it wasn't printing out the ADS-B pings like the plugin did, it wasn't receiving them.  Perhaps that functionality has been removed.  It's definitely tracking my flight in the simulator now, which is cool.

I confirmed today that the I/O tab needs to get clicked to "Listen" each time Avare is started.  In the past Avare remembered this setting and stayed set.  Please go back to the old way and give me one less thing to remember to do each flight!!!!  I run a Stratux ADS-B in with Avare 10.1.0, Android 11.
Thanks for the cool Avare App!

Figured out how to connect X-Plane to Avare over wifi after some trial and error.

X-Plane doesn't use a third-party bridge program like XConn or XMapsy (which works but not 100%).

Go to the "Network" page in X-Plane settings and use the "Add connection to XAvion..." tab with the local IP address of the phone or tablet.  Note the port number that X-Plane uses.  You can use a program like Aquila's "Wake On Lan" or something similar to get the IP addresses on all the devices on your network or check the router.

Now go to "IO" on the bottom of the Avare display and put in the port number (probably 48002) that X-Plane uses and hit save and you should be good to go :)

Download the latest Avare and once loaded at the bottom of the screen scroll to the I/O tab. You have a few choices here depending on how you are using Xplane.

1. If just want a moving map and no ADS-B connection for other traffic, at the top open up the pulldown and select XPlane, port should be 49002 and select Listen

In Xplane under Network you would have on the right side Other Mapping Apps, select the radio button for Broadcast to all Mapping Devices on the network.

This will show your aircraft on the map

2, if you are using something like RealTraffic to get broadcast ADS-B traffic to show up in Xplane, then you can go to the I/O screen and select WiFi  from the pull down. Port should always be 4000 and select Listen

In Xplane you go to Network and Select Xavion or FlyQ and then put in the IP address of your tablet and for the port it will default to 48002. (XP12 lets you actually select the port so you can choose 4000)

This will give you your aircraft on the moving map and display ADS-B aircraft as well on the map
