It was working last week (2/20/22).  I wonder if there was a recent update to Avare or ADSB Pro that is causing the problem.  I have 2 Lenovo tablets.  The older one has not been powered up for months.  It is displaying correctly.  The newer one which has been on continuously (with a Wifi connection) is not.  The ADSB Pro apts on both tablets show that they are collecting data, so I do not think there is a hardware problem.  I have also checked the Avare preferences and ADSB Pro options.  All settings are the same between devices. This problem occurred after I updated the charts on the newer tablet this week.  I also updated the charts on the older tablet yesterday with no problem. Does anyone have an explanation?

My older tablet is a Tab3 8.  The newer one is a Tab M8.  I am using HIZ recommended SDR as the receiver.

John,

There haven't been any recent Avare application updates.  Keep in mind opening other applications that also look for ADS-B data can block Avare's access to the data.  The most common program loaded that will do this is "Fltplan Go".

I alway close my apts.  I have very few apts on the new tablet since I only use it for Avare.  I do not have Fltplan go.  Could there be some setting in Avare or ADSB Pro that is incorrectly set?  Possibly I missed it when I compared Tablet settings.  JK

Hi John.
ADS B Pro is Not an Avare app it's a paid app from another developer and I am not sure if there is direct way to get help for it?
There were some changes in the AOS and the way it may or may not, work with that app.. Post your procedure on how you use that app do you use Avare IO direct access without it, what port you are using, what Avare vers... TV

I uninstalled Avare and reinstalled the latest version yesterday.  I am using Avare ADSB Pro V4.9.1 which is the latest version.  According to Avare ADSB Pro I am using port 4000.   This is the port that I have always used.  I am not sure about the procedure.  I originally downloaded both apts and they ran together without a problem. BTW I have been using them both for years without a problem.

As TV mentioned "ADSB Pro" is written by a third party and is not supported by the Avare team.  The author for the application (according to the playstore) is Michael Hammer, and I believe he is a regular on the mailing list, hopefully he can help you out, you can also reach out to him on his website also listed on Google's playstore.

The only difference that I can find is that my older tablet (the one that is displaying traffic and weather) is operating on Android V6 while my newer tablet (which is not) is V10.  Maybe Google is messing with me.  Mike Hammer, if you see this what do you think?  JK

Avare 10.1.0 updated yesterday.  That version will delete all your flight plans and W&B.  You cannot use SD storage now.  I have not yet found instructions on importing or exporting data as the new help text promises.

Hi John

The update you did on the tablet, what was that exactly? An upgrade to Android 12? There may be some changes that will cause issues with the direct interface the two apps share. It may be deprecated.

You wrote you're using port 4000 to send the data, which is not required. Avare ADSB can talk to Avare directly, there is no need to enable GLD90/port 4000 to send the data. But based on the latest changes to Android 12, this may be an alternate way to provide the data to Avare, until the next version of Avare ADSB fixes this issue.

Regards, Mike

You can import any zip file that contains data from import/export screen in preferences.

Try export first. You will get a zip file. You can put it anywhere as backup. You can also transfer it to your PC and then to a different device. Then you can import this file.

Unlike previous versions, export will zip up everything including charts and user data.

Import can import partial data.

Please post questions here if it's confusing.
Scoped storage has ruined everything for SD card and other device internal folders.

The workaround being:
  • Select to use GDL90 in Avare ADSB
  • Go to the new IO tab in Avare, select WiFi
  • Ensure the same port as in Avare ADSB is configured (default 4000)
  • Click on Listen

It would be lovely if this setting were 'sticky'.

I've had the same problem, I've not flown for a few months and wanted to update my avare on both of my
Nexus 7 tablets.  I run 2 because of different things displayed and nice to have backup while flying...
I have flightbox outputting wifi.
The flight box is working, my buddy using his iPad linked in and the (ads-b in) worked perfectly.
I also installed another for ads-b (I-fly gps) app and it works on my tablet and reading my flight box perfectly.

the only thing I've changed is updating the app and charts.
I've followed this conversation above... my other tablet has NO OTHER APP on it(only avare & avare i-o). it's just for flying...
and my second tablet is a clean unit with only avare and avare i-o installed (just did a temp install of (I-fly gps) for testing.

Yes, I've always used the avare i-o on 4000 port, and can see the ads-b data coming in.  then I bring up avare... it's always worked.

but now nothing....

I've also tried to use the avare app without avare i-o, maybe the new version don't need the I-O module... but still no help...

----------
on the information above.....?????
                                       The workaround being:
        • Select to use GDL90 in Avare ADSB
        • Go to the new IO tab in Avare, select WiFi
        • Ensure the same port as in Avare ADSB is configured (default 4000)
        • Click on Listen

I Can not find GDL90  / Look's like it might be in avare i-o?  but i see nothing..

Also, I've saw something about not using memory cards anymore?...my nexus 7 does not have a card option,
but in my wifi option, it has            /mnt/sdcard/out.bin

Now I've for the fun of it, I've cleared all data and all cashe and can not re-register my avare...
yes the wifi is on my home internet.... 3/24/2022 7am est

IO app does not work anymore. There is an IO tab within Avare now that you need to use.

Regarding the missing GDL90 option, this is referring to the external ADSB Receiver app, which you do not need since you are using flightbox. To summarize:
  • Avare app now contains the IO app.
  • The separate Avare IO app can be removed, it is no longer needed, as Z mentioned.
  • The ADSB Receiver linked above was communicating directly with Avare previously, but the interface has been deprecated. It now uses the IO feature in Avare via GDL90.
So with your setup, you only need Avare and nothing else.

The integrated I/O only shows Bluetooth as a connection option. What happened to all the other options? I need WiFi for my ADSB.

Good point. I had not noticed that. To use Avare with X-plane you would need the wifi connection.

Just touch the banner that says Bluetooth and it should pull down the other options.   There's a long list.

But, yeah, a lot of it isn't obvious or presented in the best way.  Unfortunately it can take some time to figure out the user interface.

Only Bluetooth was being displayed. What seems to be happening is there is a display issue. The other options are there, but only the currently selected option is displayed. If I tap on a blank part of the dialog, below the displayed Bluetooth option, whichever option "should" have been where my finger tapped, is now the one that is displayed. I tapped around enough to end up selecting WiFi, but it is the only option now that actually displays.

I am using the Stratux ADS-B receiver, and two identical Samsung Galaxy Tab tablets. When I updated one to the newest version of Stratux, traffic did not display. When I re-installed version 10.0.7, traffic displayed correctly. Setting Wi-Fi on the IO tab did not fix this problem in the newest avare version.

Latest version of Avare does not support the external IO. It's been merged in the Avare under IO tab. What port are you using ?

First, many thanks to the people who make up/contribute code to Apps4AV.  I've been using Avare for at least 4 years and sending well deserved annual contributions in lieu of subscription fees.  I am very appreciative of a great product!

That said, I just blew a bunch of time others have mentioned isolating the problem to Avare - and even trying the Avare External IO app - before finding the solution here.  So thanks to all!  Just select IO/WiFi/Listen - and then it all works.

There is one issue that I hope can be addressed. There is a save button on the IO page which I assumed would remember to get GPS and ADSB-B data from Stratux on Wifi port 4000.  I've pushed that button multiple times over multiple reboots, and it just doesn't save the I/O config. Rather, my screen still shows "saving" on the button 10 minutes later.  So it seems to be a new procedure for now,  I hope that the save button can be made to work.  I'm running Avare 10.1.1.
Thanks and best, Bruce

Hi Bruce
Thanks for your help.
The Save button is to save the adsb input to a file. It's not what you are thinking. Port setting should be saved automatically.

Running v 10.1.6 on Android 11 (Samsung TabA 2019), the IO tab shows only a Bluetooth selection.  (No WiFi or anything else).  I deleted Avare (saving my data) and resinstalled, without benefit.  I next deleted Avare, deleted my data and downgraded to 10.0.8 (which does not have an IO tab), and I can again seen ADSB-IN traffic.

I am reluctant to again upgrade to 10.1.6 unless I'm confident that the IO tab will present the WiFi option.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  (was my data corrupted, perhaps, and deleting the old data may have corrected the problem?)

Thank you to all, in advance.

-Basil

IO tab has all the options. You just need to click on the button on top.

Similar problems.

I havent used avare nor stratux for a few months.  I'm able to connect to the stratux via wifi and the io tab in avare.  It's on port 4000 as always and I see traffic reports streaming in.  When I go to 192.168.10.1 it shows no weather data coming in.  I get no winds aloft and no weather radar.  I have the "use adsb weather" tab checked in avare.  Weather was working fine a while back.  I haven't updated the firmware for awhile but since it's connecting and seeing traffic, I don't want to screw it up.  Any help?  Thanks

I just tested with Avare ADSB and this works fine, traffic and weather. Can you try to reboot and then check all the settings again please? If it does not work, how exactly do you feed UAT data for testing? Can you disable the ES part of the feed and only test with UAT? Your reference to 192.168.10.1 (which I assume is the Stratux interface) let's me assume you only get ES data right now form Stratux.

Keep in mind, unless you are very close to an ADS-B ground station you will not be able to get any weather data until you are airborne.  You can always connect to the StratuX unit at 192.168.10.1 and see if it is receiving any weather data.

The reason you see traffic while on the ground is you are receiving the data directly from the aircraft, and the transmissions are line of site.
