some more thoughts for today.

1 what does it look like to generate a high resolution face from a low resolution face?

http://people.csail.mit.edu/celiu/FaceHallucination/fh.html

there are some constraints: it has to look "like a face" (they train it on a database), and it has to be internally consistent (no weird sharp edges at random) and it has to look like the original.

2 how do you get a computer to compose music in the style of a given composer?

http://artsites.ucsc.edu/faculty/cope/mp3page.htm

david cope has been doing this for a while now with "experiments in musical intelligence". he's posted a lot of binaries (all out of date) and a few explanations on his site.

Crap. Now I can't scoff those (formerly) ridiculous scifi/spy movie "Enhance Image" moments.

You're killing me, Kyle.
