Hi, I downloaded the home version of Applixware 6.0a.

I'm trying to use it on KDE 3.5 / Gentoo 2006.1 / Kernel 2.6.16. I've
installed it per the directions and the applications work without any
libc errors or such. However, when I
run the licence server, I get an error in the log saying the hostname
is unknown. The licence file has the same hostname as is echoed by
running 'hostname' in a console. The licence server creates two sockets
in /tmp/.

Applixware reports my kernel as 2.4; is this the source of the problem
(differences in handling sockets)? Is it fixable without getting a new
binary or having to use it in vmware?

Hi Omar,

First, please understand - Gentoo is pretty much a bleeding edge
distribution, we tested Applixware 6.0 on Redhat Enterprise, Suse
Enterprise and Ubuntu. It would be impossible for us to test on all of
the 1000+ Linux distributions (see http://distrowatch.com/).

Try running ../axdata/axhostid - what does it tell you ?

Hi Philip,

After running that command, this is the output:

Aster*x License Management
Aster*x License Key: 000802487e6c-67 for host Yarkand
Aster*x Vendor Id: 1000

The hostname is correct. If VistaSource is willing, I can be a tester
for this on gentoo. You can add a distro that Applixware works on and I
get a working Applixware install without using VMWare. I would like to
make an ebuild for it (gentoo's install method). I've been using gentoo
for three years and a linux user and sometime troubleshooter for 5
years.

Hello Omar,

I would like to help see if we can get the licensing issue resolved.
But first can you verify for me which product you download - Applixware
6A or Applixware Homeuser Edition?

Thanks,
Michele
