If you haven't yet joined and want to come, join the google group here to find out what you need to do to set up your computer for the workshops. Also, please register here for the series so we can send you info about the workshops as the series goes on.

3. What is the Internet Talk

Wednesday, 10/12, 8-9:30pm in Hamilton 516

Join us for dinner and dessert to learn about Internet from Elena Silenok, founder and CEO of Clothia, a fashion technology platform. The internet is perhaps the most important invention in the last 50 years. Topics include Internet history, protocols, network architecture, applications, security, mobile, and a look at future challenges to the Internet itself. You'll leave with an understanding the basics of email, WWW, protocol stack, and the Internet ecosystem as well as a well satisfied sweet tooth.
Prerequisites: None

Clothia is a pre-launch Internet startup that is productizing augmented reality technology to allow users can virtually try on clothes using augmented reality via their webcam. Elena is a contributing writer to Business Insider and a root member of NYhacker and has been featured by BetaBeat as one of the “25 Women Driving New York’s Tech Scene".

4. Foursquare Tech Talk

Wednesday, 10/19, 9-10pm in Interstate Lab

Harry Heymann, the lead engineer at foursquare, will discuss foursquare's use of the scala programming language. Scala is an innovative language that melds ideas from both object oriented and functional paradigms. Using it has allowed foursquare to produce better features faster and with fewer defects (while having more fun!) than older programming languages would allow. Come join us to learn all about it!
