Hello ADI!

Some of you old-timers might remember that I used to send out most of the emails for the listserv.  I'm trying my hand at it again, although I'll probably let a young whippersnapper replace me soon enough.

Something I'm really excited to announce is the 5th point, the Startup Career Fair.  All of New York City's hottest startups will be recruiting devs for full-time positions and internships.  Come check it out and see if you can help a startup change the world!

ADI Events:
1.  iOS Workshop #3, Monday 10/24
2.  Introductory Python Workshop, Tuesday 10/25
3.  Hacker Office Hours, Tuesday 10/25
4.  Startup Career Fair, Friday 11/11

Updates:
1.  Facebook Tech Talk, Monday 10/24
2.  Google AI Challenge, Now through December

ADI EVENTS

1. iOS Workshop #3

Monday, 10/24, 9:15-10:30pm in Hamilton 516

Learn about protocols and delegates, or "helper classes" that allow your program to generate dynamically changing views, and navigation through a hierarchy of views within your app. By the end of this lecture, you should be able to create your own app with as many pages as you'd like, navigating freely between them.

(Note: iOS development can only be done on machines running Mac OS X)

2. Introductory Python Workshop

Tuesday, 10/25, 9-10pm in Hamilton 503

Don't know Python? Don't know how to program? Don't know anything? This workshop will get you started with basic Python programming.

Interested in what we'll be doing? We'll work our way up to lists and functions, touching on variables and types along the way, and you'll leave with a simple text game.

3.  Hacker Office Hours

Tuesday, 10/25, 10-11pm in Lerner 569

Come with anything you want to hack on! If you want help with a technology, come and get help on your project from people who are more experienced, or if you're already experienced, come to share your knowledge and find collaborators!

4.  Startup Career Fair

Friday, 11/11, 1:30PM-4:30PM in Lerner 555
ADI is hosting a career fair just for student developers on campus and tech startups in NYC. The event will be a casual, t-shirt & jeans, no-suit event catered to developers and the startups where they all want to work. (Plus, we hear there will be SWAG). Examples of companies attending include: Tumblr, Nodejitsu, SecondMarket, 10gen, and Vimeo. Check out http://adicu.com/jobfair for more info.

UPDATES

1. Facebook Tech Talk
Monday, 10/24, 7:30-9PM in Davis Auditorium

Facebook is hiring brilliant developer support engineers who want to make an impact as we grow and shape the way the world connects and shares with each other.  We invite you to join us for a Tech Talk given by Facebook Developer Advocate Zhen Fang.

We've got over 800+ million active users so far, but we have so much more to do and build. We're looking for Columbia's smartest, we hope to see you!

2.  Google AI Challenge

Now - December Worldwide

Do you want to learn how to create Artificial Intelligence? Check out the Google-sponsored AI Challenge at aichallenge.org!

In the AI Challenge you will create a computer program that controls a colony of ants. Your ants must search for food in order to multiply, and also defend your colony from ants controlled by other players from around the world. The AI Challenge is accessible to everyone, from experts to beginners.
Submissions open on October 21, and stay open through December.

I look forward to seeing you there!
