Dear ADI Lovelies,

Welcome back to school and if you just signed up yesterday at the career fair, welcome to the ADI community! I hope you all had wonderful summers.This coming year, we have some ambitious events we're looking forwarding to putting on in addition to our regular workshops and involvement in the NYC start-up scene. If you have any questions, feel free to email me or any of the members on the ADI executive board.

1. Resources Workshop
Tuesday, 9/13 from 6-8pm in the CS Lounge

New to Columbia? Come and learn about helpful computing resources available at Columbia, including links to free software and tips for configuring printers on your computer.

2. Columbia Networking Night: Entrepreneurs
Thursday 9//15 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the Columbia University Club of New York on 15 W. 43rd Street

Join Columbia alumni entrepreneurs and VCs for networking at the Columbia University Club of New York. Get advice on your venture from
• Curtis Mo '85CC, '88LAW of DLA Piper, a leading corporate and securities lawyer in Silicon Valley who has represented emerging growth companies, major public companies, investment banks, venture capital funds and private equity funds in hundreds of public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, buyouts, venture capital financings and other complex transactions.
• David Soloff '91CC of Metamarkets, who has worked in information markets for the past 15 years: first on Wall Street as a quant, then with data-heavy startups, and recently as Director of Information Products at Rapt until that company’s acquisition by Microsoft.
The evening will also feature demos from alumni start-ups and networking among potential investors, partners, and mentors. Bring your business cards or download Bump.

3. ADI Open House
Friday 9//16 from 6-8pm at Botwinick Lab - 12th floor of Mudd

Interested in tech? Join the Application Development Initiative for pizza and drinks as well as good company, and a chance to learn more about tech in New York and at Columbia.

6. Four Square Hackathon
Weekend 9/17-9/18 starting at 10am at General Assembly. 902 Broadway, 4th floor

Join the worldwide foursquare community on the weekend of September 17-18th for a round-the-clock, round-the-world hacking session! Foursquare'll be officially hosting sites in New York City, San Francisco, and Tokyo. Sign up here.

7. Maker Faire
Saturday 9/17 from 10am to 7pm and Sunday from 10am to 6pm in the New York Hall of Science

The World Maker Faire NYC was described as carnival sideshow meets science fair, with robots, engineers, rockets, computer geekery and body paint. It's a cool event you might want to check out this weekend. Several people from the ADI executive board are going-if you want to join us, shoot me an email. 

8. HackNY Hackathon
Weekend, October 1st (Save the Date)

Mark your calendars for October 1-2, 2011 and join HackNy for a 24-hour adventure filled with creative challenges, coding, new friends, food, caffeine and inspiration.
