WOO-HOO! DevFest was an incredible success this year, and we have only all of you to thank! Without the amazing community here at Columbia, a week such as this could never happen. We would also like the opportunity to congratulateall our winners, and say a very special thank you to all of our gracious sponsors.
Many of you expressed interest in getting your hands on some of the projects as they develop, so we have started a list for those interested in receiving notifications about DevFest projectshere. We are also open to feedback and suggestions for next year, so please fill out our feedback formhere. ADI ANNOUCMENTS 1. SIAM: Math - Start-up Collaborative Wednesday, 2/29, 6-8 pm, in Davis Auditorium Meet Columbia alumni from NYC startups, including Bitly, Foursquare and Codecademy, and learn about the role of math and engineering in their companies. Students interested in startup careers and internships, or those simply curious to see how math is applied in the wild, are especially welcome. The event, which consists of a series of presentations from our startup members, will be followed by a reception. This is sure to be the largest applied math event of the semester!
OTHER ANNOUCMENTS 1.Venture For America Tuesday, 2/7, 8-10 pm, in 303 Hamilton Come learn aboutVenture for America, thenew two-year fellowship program in which top recent college graduates will work at start ups in low-cost cities supporting an entrepreneur in growing his or her business. Fellows attend a 5-week boot camp at Brown University in Summer, 2012 with experienced entrepreneurs and investors before beginning assignment. The top performing Fellow receives $100k in seed investment to start his or her own enterprise.
Attend the Venture for America Information Session and Meet and Greet with its founder, Andrew Yang. Also meet our first VFA Fellow Derek Turner (CC '12).
2. Photo Hack Day 2 Saturday - Sunday, 2/25 - 2/26, at General Assembly Join Aviary at Photo Hack Day 2 for another weekend of photo-centric badassery! They promise the following: Awesome APIs and developers from equally awesome companies, Food and drink aplenty (you will be fed -- stuffed -- all weekend long), Sweet prizes / prize money (last year we gave away $10K!), afireside chatwith industry leaders Alexis Ohanian (co-founder, reddit), Ben Huh (founder, Cheezburger Inc.), and David Karp (co-founder, Tumblr), And an ample opportunity for developers to meet, collaborate, and demonstrate their coding prowess in front of company representatives and enthusiastic Demo Day attendees.
