Howdy ADI!

This past week, ADI had a fantastic Holiday Party and TechCulture was great! Who knew the open source community was so cool? We want to thank everyone who made it out to these events, as you helped make them a smash success.

As always here at ADI, we are starting to plan our next and biggest-greatest event coming early next semester. Keep an eye out for the save-the-date email later this week. Also to stay informed, please like our new Facebook page, follow us on Twitter @adi_cu, and circle us on Google Plus.

In other news, our HackCU team has put together something for our new segment, the pony express dilemma:

Uninformed Cowboy: ‘ey there barkeep, let me get another one of ‘em HackCU Tutorials.  I need something to get me letters to my partners quicker. The Pony Express these days just don’t cut, ‘cause theys at least a fur piece’s away.

Informed Barkeep: I got just the thing for ya’. Check out this tutorial from HackCU “Connecting to #adicu with IRC, Web Edition” It let’s ya figure out this IRC client nonsense that makes it easy to connect to the adicu channel for all your hacking questions and conversations.

Now-Informed Cowboy: Well shucks, they did a bang-up job. This is what an’ ol’ boy like me needed.

Lastly, as the semester is winding down, and finals are slowly creeping into our minds, ADI would like to say that it is going to be okay, you are not alone, and if you need help with a hack come to Hacker Office Hours! A resonating piece published in the Eye about how sometimes, despite what we want to think, we aren’t okay. How We’re Doing by Wilfred Chan and Sarah Ngu.

OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS
1. PrintatCU.com
In the latest and greatest from the Hacker Community at Columbia comes a great application that rids us of the dreaded printer problem.  No need anymore to go through the pain-stalking process of installing drivers for only some printers, or having to log into the Computer-Labs to print your essay.  Check out printatcu.com, the easiest way to print at Columbia from your own computer. It couldn't be any simpler!

2. Apply for HackNY Fellowship
The hackNY Fellows program is an intense 10 week program designed to introduce students to NYC’s startup ecosystem by pairing the best technical minds with great New York startups. Local startups are carefully selected for the program and have demonstrated evidence of a mentoring environment, committing to:
(i) a specific person (CTO, lead dev, or other technical mentor) to work with the Fellow;
(ii) a specific place allocated for the Fellow to work; and
(iii) a specific technical problem for the Fellow to conquer during the program.

Applications will be considered as they are received at http://hackny.org/a/students/.  For fullest consideration students should apply before 11:59 PM NYC time December 31 2011.  For a brief introduction to the program, please see this video created by the class of 2011 hackNY Fellows http://bit.ly/hackNY2011vid.
