Okay, folks, another question now.

A family member has sent "raw video" to me via thumb drive (CD was way
too small).

My computer will not recognize the files. The files are .mpg
designated as MPEG movie in the "kind" column.

I have tried QuickTime, iMovie, FinalCut Express, and iTunes
(clicking, the open menu and dragging to the program).

Help.

Downloaded and installed Flip4Mac, still they will not open. Get Info
tells me they are movie files and to use QuickTime to open them but
the messages say they are not movie files. I even made a copy of one
and changed the extension.

:-(

Try this website:

http://www.mp4-converter-for-mac.com-http.com/converting-mpg-to-mp4-mac.html
There are directions on how to do it, as well as a trial version for
intel Macs or PPC Macs.
Good Luck with the movies!

Thank you, Paul. That was what I needed.

However, the trial version only allows conversion of the first five
minutes but does show me it will work. It seems silly to buy the
program to convert only four movies, but at least two have my youngest
son who died in 1997 on them so I'll do it.

My nephew who sent them said everything is "everything is in its
original master quality," but default the conversion is to a standard
QuickTime movie for CD. It looks like I will be able to choose
multiple formats from the drop-down menu. Do you know if I can get
full-quality video (as in iMovie) from that menu? I tried a different
setting but the results were the same.

Again, thank you for the info.
