Lately:
We've had some new members join, very active Thursday nights, a lot of 3D printer use, a new CAD workstation, some projects done on the CNC mill, and some more done in the wood shop! It's great to see all the activity.
Soon:
In the coming weeks, we are planning some specific activities that we're hoping will be a lot of fun for everyone. But actions speak louder than words, so I'm not going to make any promises about the future. Just watch the activity here and on Slack, or come out to the space to check things out for yourself. :-)
Housekeeping:
We've been working on reorganizing a lot of the space (again), and I need to ask everyone who has stuff in a locker, or on a shelf, to make sure you are only using max 2 lockers, and one 2'x4' shelf. Please also make sure you're name is on those things.
If you rent additional space, please keep your things contained in that space when you aren't physically there.
New Temp Storage:
We put small whiteboard plaques on the front of the shelves in the middle of the member storage area. Those shelves are now designated "Temporary Project Storage".
If you have a project you are working on that won't fit in your personal storage areas, you can put your name on a plaque in front of a shelf, and the date you put it there, with the date (no more than 2 weeks away) that it will be gone. If you need to keep it there longer than 2 weeks, just keep updating the dates as needed. But please don't abuse this space. It is intended for active projects, not junk storage. Take your junk with you when you leave.
The Purge:
If you have personal things anywhere else in the space, including on work surfaces, the floor, or shelving that isn't yours, like the hack pile, please remove them as soon as you can. We'll soon be removing whatever is left, not in personal storage areas or temp storage.
If you have large tools you are keeping at the space, like the loom, or the sheetmetal bender, those are already exempt from being purged, and can continue to be out on the floorspace.
A Rules Refresher:
This doc covers the rules and guidelines for how to keep the space clean and usable for everyone. Many of you have never seen it because we created it some time last year and I think only printed a copy to share with new members.
Please read it over and follow these basic rules going forward. When we can get to a point where the clutter is managed, we can maintain a much cleaner workspace.
And most importantly, it will be easy to know where tools and materials are and if they are for member use or not. (hint: if they aren't put away in member storage, they are available for use by any member)
Thank you all for being a part of this group. I hope to see many of you at the space soon!
