request for guidance for gsoc

hello,

I'm Awanish Das and I'm studying computer science in Indian Institute of Technology Patna,India .I'm proficient in c++.I'm new to open source and I know how to use git and github.I have completed academic projects where one was an I-voting portal and other was lexical analyzer implementation in c++.

I want to get involved in appleseed.I have never used a commercial renderer.Please guide me how to contribute and get selected in appleseed.
