This test isn't even finished rendering but I couldn't wait to post it. This is a screenshot of Luxrender rendering the red dot demo, along with the appleseed render I did previously. The left image is appleseed sppm. The right image is the still rendering Luxrender version using mlt. I just finished setting up the Lux version of the scene and let it rip with the Lux default render settings (that's why mlt and not sppm). A few minutes ago I set up a Lux sppm version and just started it going. I can already see that the Lux sppm is looking more like appleseed sppm on the water surface, where I think mlt is having a hard time with SDS paths. Tomorrow I'll post the Lux sppm render. I will also zip up the appleseed and Luxrender scenes and post them. Materials I'm sure are not 100% equivalent, but they look pretty closely matched.

Hahaha! Comparo time! :p

Interesting! I'm very surprised how Lux has troubles to render caustics inside the refraction. o_O

I think it's because the Lux render is using mlt and it's having trouble with SDS paths. I have a Lux sppm render in progress and it's doing much better on those caustics.

Hi Wally,

Very interesting!

I'm particularly looking forward to the comparison with LuxRender's SPPM implementation.
