Greetings everyone,
My name is Wanxuan Sun. I’m a master student in computer science, studying at State Key Lab of CAD&CG, Zhejiang University, China. I’m focused on computer animation, working on the phenomenon of murmuration with senior students based on former work of our team. Also, I'm assigned to build an automatic image compositing system with CNN optimization recently.
As for programming, I’m confident using C/C++. The most adorable point of programming is to bring ideas into life. I’ve built toy projects with several kinds of programming language, such as an Android, Arduino and BLE based BB-8 robot system (the shell of the body seems a little rough though). I’ve also developed several Unity-3D applications and games based on HTC-Vive/Oculus/Leap Motion with artists and other developers. As for graphics demo, I wrote a scan-line Z-buffer demo, and I'm now working on a demo of Monte-Carlo path tracer with C++ STL.
I posted a 3D-printing script add-on to Blender API on Github in 2015, in 2014 I posted a d3.js visualization website demo. the reason that I didn’t contribute more may be lack of confidence online. I wish I could have communicated more with other programmers. So this is the very first step to change. As for peer review, senior PHD candidates check our code and we have to follow the coding guidelines in teamwork.
Personally I love modeling and rendering. I tried building scenes mainly with Maya, Blender and C4D, up above is a rendered picture of mine, a Jack-named character from Jack with the Cuckoo-Clock Heart. I use Arnold and Mental Ray as main renderers. I'll be so glad if I can write a renderer by myself. I've heard of appleseed before, but never got a chance to use it. Recently I'm reading Jeremy Birn's Digital Lighting & Rendering to achieve the <Write a simple renderer by myself> goal.
I‘m interested in the #10 project - Unbiased Photon Gathering mainly because photon mapping is an attractive area to me, the experience I accumulated in the Monte Carlo path tracer development may help. Another reason is that as the research period may be a bit hard, I may get more Q&A chance for this topic compared to other ones, in the same lab with the author of UPG method, prof. Kun Zhou, whose team is one of the best teams in this area.
I hope that I can learn more about project integration & clean code this summer, that’s why I want to get my self involved in this program. If I can complete the project smoothly, I would like to contribute more to appleseed community after summer as well.
Thank you for reading and I’m going to compile appleseed on macOS. Hope the first step goes well:)
