Greetings!

With all the talk about “Picture” messenger usage and their accessibility, I am one of those who does not have Facebook and would rather do either Zoom or Google Meet.  I’ve tried Zoom with my daughter which was before Rich gave us instructions on how to read text messages, and I did not find it easy to look for that.

So since I know that Google Meet has open captioning if that option is switched on, I am wondering if one can read text messages here?

Many thanks and have a great day!

Jeff

jeff,

rich here.

use facetime only. when you get to facetime, you dial your daughter's number, wait until she answers, then hit home button and go down to message and open your daughter's. she can look at your face and yo talk with her, she types text back to you. you continue talking and she types texts back to you. then you are done, use home button to get out and go back to facetime and close down.

try it.

sincerely,

rich

Rich Sir:

Jeff here!

Thankyou for your suggestion.  However my son and his family have Anroid phones so this will not work at also, Gogle Meet is a good choice especially when ten of us meet together                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

angela for apple store did mention about ghoogle duo that android and iphone might be doing.

but she said encourage everyone to get iphone/ipad to make the facetime working.  smile. she did say to me to tel my sisters and my  nieces to get iphones. wink! that would make her having good commission.

jerff, angela said that apple engineers are working to sort out for people with different cellphones like android, samsung and others. keep fingers crossed.

sincerely,

What about a web-based client like Skype? I guess no one is using Skype anymore, but I think Skype for iPhone and Android would do what you want—video for signing and text channel that your display would read.

The one advantage to Zoom hat I have seen is that Zoom will try to turn spoken words into a text transcript, similar to what Dictation does on the phone. It’s slow as hell, but Zoom will interpret spoken words into a transcript, which my Braille display read fine, once I got my cursor into the right spot.

Hello Mark,

Thank you for the information and I did used skype in the past but never tried video. I noticed most people in Canada don’t used skype. I don’t know why.

That is why skype is not popular this time

Hi Rish and all.

Sir Scott Dollar here.

First of all, soon that FaceWill be available to all android phones that I saw on the news about few weeks ago.

Baraeayou might want to try look into the app called What's App.  What's App is very accessible to the braille displays and screen readers by now that some told me about it.

Sincerely,

Sir Scott Dollar

The Great Dollar and the Great Rich and All!

The great Jeff is here!

Thank you so much for both of your responses.  Rich, Angela was only doing her sales for Apple and would talk like what she did to you so unfortunately, I can’t go by that.

Many hard of hearing folks say that hear much better on android phones than I-Phones.  MY son and his wife have been a very long time Android phone users along with their daughter who got one recently.  However, I just remembered that they have an iPad which their son is currently using it and shares with the family until he is old enough to get his own phone.  MY daughter’s husband is an Android user and so is their son who got an used one after losing his first brand new Android.  Like my younger grandson, my daughter’s daughter is using an iPad primarily.   Recently we had a family conference using the iPad and I think they used Google Meet APP.  I will try Face ?Time; however, I am not sure if they have an open captioning for my wife to read if she can’t follow the conversation.  That was why I asked about Google Meet as I am trying to figure how one APP can be made accessible to all of us

Hi Dollar again!

Jeff here!

Not sure if I thanked you in my last message so here I am .  Glad to know that those with Android phones will get an upgrade which will include the new APP.

Rich and all, one thing I like about Google talk and Zoom is that they both have open captioning which is very good for my wife who is sighted and hard of hearing.

Well my mum who is sighted fits all the time with ‘what’s ap’ so I’m not sure how easy it would be for blind people. Also she can’t get it going on her iPad Pro and I haven ’t tried on the Mac. If anyone has and found it all right I would be interested to know love emma

I use face time and it is really easy. All you have to do is to open the ap, go across to the box where you put in the phone number or email address. If it is someone you email regularly you only have to put in the first three letters and then go across and click on call or video depending on what you want. I do use zoom but I’ve never managed to set up a meeting myself. I was talking to some very intelligent people at our wedding at the weekend and they said it was tricky enough for sighted people to do that. However, if someone sends me a link I can get it going just fine love emma

Happy Sunday  To All!

Jeff is here typing..

PLEASE, I say again PLEASE! Don’t go to a different program or whatever that is not related to the Subject heading, please…

I say I am really surprised that none of you  thus far have made any comments about accessibility for the Blind users to use Google Meet.  I wonder why??

One person on the other list who is also a member of this list has said that it works with the DB or Blind to use Google Meet on the PC and then uses an APP (I can’t remember the name but can look for it if any of you are curious) on the iPhone to read the text of open captioning.  I think this is a lot of bother and nuisance to be using two devices so I wonder if the DB or Blind can use just one device??  And how?

Thanks!

Jeff
