Hi, Barbara. Mark here.

I have updated to IOS17.3. Sadly, all the issues I had, and have discussed on this list before, still seem to be present. I have noticed no improvement, but there are no new bugs that I can identify yet. I am in contact with Apple Accessibility and they are gathering diagnostic logs about the issues I discussed earlier. But you're probably safe to update if you can deal with the status quo.

Hell,

oh I see that is a very disappointment and it should improve as it says bugs fixed but it is not. I hate that idea.

I will wait becaus eI not want to screwed upmy magic eyboard with my iphone to be typing. I not want typing to be delay again just like IOS 14, IOS 15 for a very long time as it keeps freezing then finally IOS 16 fixed it then again abit for IOS 17 but fixd it when update. I not want to deal with a great struggled of typing is a very difficulty to get it done with e mail. I rather to wait to be on a safe side than get frustration too much.

Thank you for sharing.

I also updated to 17.3. I am having no issues using braille with my phone. Things are tracking nicely as they were before. Sad to hear that Mark’s issues have remained the same.

I also find that messages I type on the Perkins style keyboard of either of my Braille displays comes out with a lot of mistakes and gibberish. I, too, prefer my QWERTY. The Focus and the BT keyboard seem to play well together, so I have them both paired.

I have never put a QWERTY keyboard on my phone. I write all my email and other messages using my braille display, including this one. Couldn't do without it. It's great to have choices. I started doing everything in braille several years ago when I had an ElBrl 14, which I loved at the time because it was so portable and I wasn’t about to spoil that by adding a not extra keyboard. The good thing about that, was that it got me really using braille for both reading and writing, so I learned both the JAWS/windows commands for the computer, and the IOS braille commands for the phone. The ElBrl got too slow and they didn’t upgrade that model, and I didn’t want anything bigger. I’ve replaced it with a tiny baby computer, that is just a rectangular box slightly shorter than my 14-cell display, with windows, a battery, tons of ports, bluetooth, and JAWS. Back to portability.

Hello Diana,

I understand but we need to respect others who prefer perkin braille display or qwerty keyboard because perkin braille display takes forever to type because we need to press 1 to 5 dots each time takes longer. When we used qwerty keyboard it is a very quickly to typing and speed it up. We feel whatever we feel like to. It is important to respect our feelings which one we want or prefer to used.

I kknow some Db prefer qwerty because it is more quickly and less pressure or over used our fingers. That is important what we feel prefer which one. Nothing is wrong. I am 11 years of braille user and prefer qwerty keyboard still. No harm done.

Thank you

I am very very disappointed with braille!

Anders From Sweden here.
To be honest I believe that braille is much much better on the iOS than on the OSX for Mac.
I have both and of corse there are bugs that has to be fixed but on the Mac there has been braille bugs comping from the previous os that has not ben resolved even though I have been giving feedback.

Hi!
I use the Focus 14 on the iOS system and a Focus 40 on my Mac.
I would love to have something better than the focus 40.
Its too wide so the query keyboard is not close enough for my fingers.
I don’t want to use a braille keyboard as I have the focus 40 with no braille keyboard.
It would be nice with the mantis q40 as long as it works properl with the Mac.
Bless.

Yes indeed, I did go to World tech at FB. There are good and some not good about IOS update for braille. Yes I know it dpend on who have different braille display have some different issues for braille. For myself right now it is still good since I have not update yet so I think I better leave it alone for now.

I do keep an eye on World tech on FB sometimes they say it is good to go and some says no. That is why.

Hello Scott,

Yes I understand but not everyone like FB that is why it is not a good place to be access there. Many DB prefers googlegroups better than DB. That is the truth. That is why some DB complain and miss the information that they can not go to fb due too much volumes and overwhelming. I don’t like FB myself too.

I hope that helps

Barbara and all:

The new IOS 17 update did not change anything with regard to the following. The focus 14 and 40 blue, if they are 5th generation can connect up to five different bluetooth connections and one USB connection. You switch between them by pressing theMenu button with dots 1-5. The first one you set up/pair is 1, the next is 2. Once you have paired your 40, and you set it up as say connection 2, then just make sure you choose that connection when you turn it on, and also, make sure your Focus 14 is turned off, so it doesn’t try to grab the connection. I have a Focus display paired to my computer and my phone, and I just choose connection 1 or connection 2, depending on what I want the display to connect with.

Hello Diana,

When I update and saw the an explain it says fixed the bugs too but ti did not fixed anything.

I do have both pairs as i am brailler user for ten years. I had no issues to switch back and forth till IOS 17 stopped it. It will just bounced back and forth. How I do it. I had to turn off the Focus 14 then turn off and on voiceover to trigger to join with Focus 40. It worked so when I want to switch back to Focus 14. I do the same thing repeat because if I go to settings, go to accessibility go to voiceover go to braille then click on focus 14 or 40 will not work. It will go back and forth like crazy . It is not worth it. I did show it to my intervenor and she dropped her jaws. Lol

I had to shut dowoneof those braille will stay there. The accessbility needs to fix it as it is a bug.

I hope that is clear?

Hello Barbara and all:

Maybe  this will help with braille displays switching back and forth between jplays that can connect to the same device.
1. Switch off the device you DO NOT WANT to connect at the time. Note: it may turn on once again, when it sees the idevice.
2. Make sure that the display that you DO WANT CONNECTED is set on the correct Bluetooth connection.
3. If the unwanted display comes back on (and occasionally that happens), you can press the menu button with dot 8 (the Enter key) to make it look for a USB connection and turn it off a second time. It shouldn't bother you any more until you summon it again.

Hope that halps. Personally, I don’t think this is an IOS17 issue, I think it is related to Bluetooth. It's getting smarter too, sometimes too smart for its own good, as I’ve seen this issue with one or more sound devices paired with the same idevice or computer.
