Adding new message text

Hi,

I have my Mail plugin (Mavericks) doing everything I'd like except for the ability to add text/links to a message while the user is composing a new message. I have a toolbar button that, when clicked, should insert a hyperlink at the end of the message. Does anyone have any example code that does this (or something like it)?
